They don't come in that category anymore.

Here's my favourite tune from Jimi (love this rare version with that sax intro).

Changed music forever, a pioneer, and a genuine nice man by all accounts. BBC 4 has some great programmes, worth the licence fee alone.

He was amazing. Not just for the flashy playing. My fave things by him are pretty understated. The intro riff on Castles Made of Sand. The last solo in Watchtower. Great voice too. Great image too.

Just listen to "Hear my train coming" played on a Japanese Zematis 12 string, watch him playing it and singing it, its actually untouchable nobody has come near to that performance before or since its quite beautiful really.

He was a very special musician, we were lucky.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Some footage of the guy I hadn't seen before.Especially the audiences in '66/7,hardly a long hair in sight - is that what we looked like?
Quite amazing really,we Brits nicked The Blues off the Yanks, repackaged it and sold it back to them, very much the perception that Jimi was "one of ours" at the time.

Poll: So how was the season for you?

That's what made me save up for a 12 - string.

I am still Steve but no longer in Dagenham.

Liked to have seen the night he killed God (Clapton) on stage.

Also liked to have seen Zeppelin blow The Doors off stage which was a regular occurrence in 69

One of my favourite albums is his Radio One which is a compilation of 5 sessions he did for the BBC including his first ever recordings. His interpretation of Howlin' Wolfs ' Killing Floor' is outstanding.

To think his first tour in the States was supporting the Monkees !

Always used to start off his early sets with the sped up version of Killing Floor - the first number I ever heard him play on that old white Strat.

Another of my favs from Jimi:

Ezy Rider. Live. Not the best audio quality, but that band was a bulldozer. How I wish I was at one of his concerts...

He was the man.

Had he lived he would have got into that whole Fusion thing - we called it Jazz Rock at the time.Great era for impromptu jams.
Would have produced some awsomeness to be sure.

Totally agree with this, he was defo Jazz Rock in my book, didn't get into Hendrix until recently. A boundary pusher in my view.

Talk about mismatch. They realised soon enough.

I always wondered why Radio One never use that jingle he recorded. Copyright I suppose. Seems odd though.

The Wind Cries Mary is my favourite Hendrix song, in fact one of my favourite rock songs. Great lyrics and wonderful, relaxed guitar playing. I believe he wrote it while having a bath. If correct, what a genius.

There aint half been some clever bastards.

Apparently Redknapp tried to sign him.

I was brought up with Fenders , Bose amps, wah wah pedals and plectrums scattered all over the house. Despite my love of house and techno(my old man nearly disowned me!)Hendrix is up there with my favourite sound. An absolute natural.

Occasional providers of half decent House music.
