Just a heads up that TFL are now looking for feedback about the repair of Hammersmith Bridge. I’d keep it as a pedestrian/foot bridge personally. Boris could have his garden bridge afterall!
The useless fckers at H&F and that tinpot at TFL have had it closed for a year and done nothing. Get the Chinese over here to knock it down and build a new bridge, it’ll be up and ready before Christmas.
Adds 45 mins each way to my journey, going south via Putney, Chiswick or Kew bridge with all the added traffic is a total nightmare.

But how will Grayling be able to give a contract to his friends at a company that has never built a bridge before if you give it to the Chinese who can build a whole Hospital in a week?
Especially as he knows his friend's company well and they have several Ferries but no Bridge builders.

The last week has shown how quickly you can get used to anything, but I hope it reopens to cars as soon as possible. I live just off the South Circular in SW14 and a good portion of the redirected traffic, including down from the A3 is funnelled into our local streets trying to squeeze through the bottleneck at the base of Chiswick Bridge. Standing traffic at all times of the day (until this week), kids late for school, 45 minutes to drive 2 miles. The council have responded by trying to ban right turns and street parking which has hacked off the locals even more. Chuck in train strikes and engineering suspensions, level crossing closures, the narrowing of Kew Bridge for a cycle lane and the fact that Hammersmith Bridge being closed interrupts bus access to the tube network and it all adds to the sense of imprisonment. I know some people at the bridge think their new traffic free piazza oasis is marvellous, but it’s just shifted the load to somewhere that was already as busy as they used to be.

I grew up 50 yards from that lovely bridge, so I'd rather they didn't knock it down! But it's totally nuts that in a world city like London they can't sort out a major river crossing, and as you say, have done nothing for a year. It's reprehensible behaviour. Sort it out!
