Ipswich had been first division champions only the season before last. Not a great surprise they finished rock bottom this season conceding 121 goals!

Must have been one of those days when everything Fulham hit went in as they weren't prolific that season only scoring another 48 goals in their other 41 games.

It was Boxing Day, back then most of the players were half cut or hung over, anything could and did happen.

Fulham's record win (unsurprisingly). Went to Ipswich, two days later, and lost 4-2!

If they had VAR most of the goals would have being disallowed

Yeah, but there would have been 48 penalties to compensate.

And after winning 8-2 at West Ham, Blackburn lost at home to them!

If memory serves me correctly, Blackburn were top of the league at that time & looked to be likely champions. I don't think they really recovered from this reverse.

My brother went to the West Ham game on the morning & then watched Chesham lose 5-4 to Letchworth in the afternoon. I also know an Ipswich fan who claimed that he went to West Ham & then across to Fulham, seeing 21 goals in the day! I have no reason to doubt him, but I was surprised that Fulham wasn't a morning kick off as well.
