Just been sacked from Greece or Cyprus or wherever. Wasn't there long enough for a tan! Knows the Championship inside out. Always had Ipswich top ten. Happy to blood young players... Don't want him here ,but just saying

Er....no. Just no.
Err, well had them finish twice in top ten. Left as they were being relegated. Just another fossil Manager who does the rounds and gets sacked only to appear elsewhere.

He's a very good proven manager at this level, comical that we think we are too good for him.
Ipswich didn't magically get better after they sacked him
I've got a better idea. I've been developing my skills as a medium since the start of the new IOM lockdown, i've had nearly 9 hours to practice so far, and I've been awake for 2 of those hours, and even sober for half of that. Right now, I can hear many voices, which may or may not be my neighbour arguing with her kids. For the commensurate compensation, I am prepared to contact some late, great managers to form a celestial management committee from which they will send down team selections, training guides and in-game instructions which will be passed on to the team through me. They will be watching the games live, as such, poor choice of word maybe, no internet lag up there! You know it makes sense.

Can't defend the football too much but much prefer his wryness to the grumpy codger chuntering of all the other fossils.
Will be very glad to hear him back co-commentating on the radio, he makes it feel like TMS.

Actually not true. He left in April 2018 when they finished 12th. Ipswich fans rejoiced at his leaving. The following season they finished bottom. He had them 6th, 7th, 9th and never lower than 16th. As I said, I don't want him here, but important to be factually correct

I used to detest him as I thought he was a brutal manager for Ireland and was arrogant for some reason as well. I think he's as dull as ditchwater and his 'football' belongs on pitch 1 in The Hague. But you're right - he did well at Ipswich, he turned himself into a good club manager and has also mellowed somewhat as a person.
I still couldn't watch his bogball crap though.

It's also true that every Ipswich fan that I know is still pleased that he was sacked. Even with the relegation!

Absolutely Brian, I was firmly in the Roy Keane camp in Saipan (we wouldn't even have been at the bloody thing if Keane hadn't dragged us there kicking and screaming) and had little respect for Mick as a manager thereafter. What is interesting (and hugely ironic, given Millwall's recent rep), is that he tried to play 'proper' football on the deck when he started his managerial career there. He had a rep of course of being a 'no-nonsense' defender and this idea of being purely a hoofer was perpetuated by his performances for Ireland under Charlton. I'm sure everyone has heard the joke about the ref instructing Mick and the Dutch captain to 'play football' as they both played out the game for a draw that sent them both through. According to no source whatsoever, Mick is supposed to have replied 'we can't ref, the boss doesn't allow it' Anyway, his rep turned out to be self-prophesying as he eventually resorted to 'long ball' tactics

Was it really that bad . The football? Maybe I watched it through a haze of alcohol. We played Spain of the park in the last 16 in Japan/Korea 2002. That was without that Judas, Keane ! Sorry to bring that up again!!

Ireland haven’t played decent football since Bryan Kerr All of the others have got the best of what they had although if you look on paper Jack charltons team should have been a lot better on the eye considering the players he had
And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Absolutely agree with your second point. Obviously Jack brought great times to Ireland which will never be forgotten. Unfortunately, he didn't fully trust the quality of players he had. Virtually the entire team were playing for England's top teams at the time; Liverpool, United, Arsenal Everton. Image nowadays having the luxury of leaving out players of the quality of O' Leary and Brady and being able to play McGrath and Lawrenson out of position. A country our size was never going to win the world cup but the European Championship was a different matter I really believe we could have won that with a bit more conviction, the element of surprise and the general poor standard at the time. It's unlikely such an opportunity will come along again, in my lifetime anyway

Alcohol tinted glasses certainly helped! You are right about the Spanish game Except for a couple of points: it was a poor Spanish team and led to a complete overhaul leading to a period of world and European dominance. We never had the courage or belief to go for the jugular even when Spain were down to 10 men.It has even been suggested that McCarthy was unaware of the numerical advantage! Certainly if Keane had been on the pitch. In the form he was in at that time, we would have put them to the sword.
