It sounds to me like a French accent, although according to Wiki he was born in Zürich, which is in the German-speaking part of Switzerland.

He does look, and sound, the real deal, and seems a lovely bloke too. Here's hoping we can hold onto hm for more than 5 minutes, but with Nick London already talking up his international credentials (amusingly, it seems it's because he's so nice he felt he should say he'd like to play for both), I fear he's bound for Arsenal reserves any day now. He needs to be offered the best contract we can manage if the Board wants us to progress.

Ryan from Brighton just gone to Arsenal, so hopefully he's free from that fate in this window at least!

Er, he was given a 4 year deal at the start of the season. If you are panicking post BOS, does it just take 20 games to earn another new contract 6 months into a 4 year one? Crikey, we'd better break the back to secure Dickie to a 10 year deal on £50k a week... Seriously, chill. Everyone is hugely frustrated at the Manning and BOS situations including the club. Everyone thinks that it is as easy as offer the contract and they will sign, but they don't have to. So, what would you do if you offered Seny a further 5 years on double his money and he says no? Timing has to be right and people forget that C19 happened just when their contract negotiations would have been ramping up and changed EVERYTHING. Yes, the outcome with BOS and Manning is not good, but I doubt we'll ever get to the truth as to why it happened...

Dieng on his game at Cardiff on 22:19 - Jan 22 with 1664 views | Myke | Just wondering why it took the coaching staff so long to realise we had a good 'un on our books. Obviously, he had a good season at Doncaster which brought along his development and we were foresighted enough to give him a four year deal (nobody complaining about THAT one). But still he wasn't first choice and almost seem to get in by default ahead of Kelly, when Lumley was dropped. Almost like, 'sure we'll give him a go and see what happens', rather than any conviction he was the best of the three, which he clearly is.

This. 3 & 1/2 years left plus probable extension does not equal a BOS Manning situation. We are all pissed off at losing two quality champs players for peanuts but Dieng will be another £££ pay day, providing there are no Lumley events. Cant fault Les on this one, as much as everyone would like to!

Mea culpa, it seems. But (kind of arguing against myself here), we sadly know contracts don't mean a lot when the big boys come calling - and, as we're contantly told, all our assets are continuouslyfor sale. Who'd be a a manager! I didn't realise he's 27 this year and has played as many games as he has (around 100, I think) on loan here and there. A late developer even in keeper terms, I guess, but should be entering the prime of his career in the coming years. Good news, let's hope. [Post edited 23 Jan 2021 5:18]

As good as he was against Cardiff I though he was poor for the goal today. Got to get a much stronger hand to that and divert away from danger. Nil nil written all over it before that. Once we gave them something to hold onto we were never cute enough to break them down. Reminds me of that Brazilian lad always parrying the ball into traffic causing chaos in our six yard box

I've watched the goal over and over again, Myke, and while I know it's subjective I couldn't personally blame Dieng for that goal. I think he's out into his set-up on time, sets up strong, he's on his toes, footwork is good to get to the shot, dives sideways with positivity, not falling back, the shot is hit well, he gets a firm hand to it, deflects it away as strongly as the pace of the shot allows. That's as much as he can do, imho. From there, it's just fortune as to who it falls to and there's no way it should fall to an unmarked 34-yr old tortoise. Apart from that, I thought he was his usual commanding self. 7/10.

Smiling at 'tortoise ' and i agree the once the shot was taken our defence just stood and watched it play out. But don't agree he couldn't have got it further away. Or dived two - handed and actually catch the damn thing - do keepers not do that anymore? Very similar to the Smithies goal during the week in terms of the initial shot. Oh well swings and roundabouts I guess

Two hands! You're a hard man to please. That's a well-placed shot from ten yards away. I'd hate to work for you!

Yeah sorry I didn't mean it like that. I meant is there a reason why he's a late developer? Has he been studying or something? I did have a look but couldn't find anything.

It was noticeable that he signed a new deal (I think he was in his last year) and on the Saturday he was in the first team and has kept his place. I'm not sure if it was a you 'don't play unless you commit to the club' scenario but I think he may have been in the same group with BOS, Manning and Lumley. Suspect we felt the time was right for him after good reviews from his loans and that he felt he needed to play for us, rather than move to a lower league or another club as back up, in order to get his career moving forward. Fair play, he has taken his chance and the club have been proved right on this one. When/if we do sell him in the future then he needs to establish that it is not a backwards move to sit on a bench for two years. It hasn't done Smithies any good. At his age he now needs to playing to keep his career going in the right direction. He seems to have a great temperament along with the ability and he could be one of the best. The proof will be whether he can bounce back after mistakes or a bad spell.
