This would be great craic. For a minute or two. Then I'd need a quiet pint somewhere.

During France 98 me and my mates were camping on a massive site in Toulouse for the England Colombia game. Cracking few days.

One night, overnight, the England fans all moved on and the Dutch moved in. Woke up yawning and pulled the tent open to a sea of orange to the horizon, gabba blasting out everywhere, and a haze of weed and massive Dutch skinheads.

Was fkin full on but we eventually got matey with them, good lads. Did a lot of ticket swapping that worked out for everyone and got quite the cottage industry going. Shite music though

I went to Carnival in Breda with a group of mates a few years ago. They really are bonkers over there. A weekend with no sleep, heroic amount of psychedelics, the relentless 180 bpm oompa-loompa music and general madness of everything was quite the test for the ol' sanity.

I went to Holland v Belgium in Paris in 98. Gazillions of enormous Dutch, a handful of Belgians. Dire 0-0 but you’d never know, everyone totally smashed and jolly until morning.

There are some fantastic groups of football fans worldwide, but it’s a shame that a few idiots spoil things for the majority.I’d love to go abroad to watch an England game but we still have a few people that are in the “No surrender” mentality.

When we went to the Halle friendly two years ago we were warned to not walk past their ultras fanzone as there might be trouble.Nothing could’ve been further from the truth because we all had a great party after the game.
Normal football fans should be able to meet other normal football fans from other places without it turning into WWIII.

It was a brilliant World Cup that, in retrospect the last one before all the corporates and sponsors took it over. Pretty easy to get tickets for games if you were willing to travel and tons of real fans all over France.
