If you can bear it. Fair play to Wednesday, Bannan still pulling the strings for them. Dreadful defending from the corner that won it for them. You can't have two players defending that both miss it.
The main thing here is not the defeat but making sure that Marti doesn't let the players go into a 'losing streak wallow', which we know they are prone to do. We have to be up for the next home game and go for it.
I actually thought the plan of action and team selection was a good one and I suspect he thought we would push on as we did at Preston. Didn't play out today. My concern is that I don't think all the changes were entirely tactical and that some of these players simply can't do 90 minutes or 3 games in a week. Nothing very new there.
I remember his first goal for us - not sure who it was against, but it was at the Loft end when he was on loan. Almost identical distance to the one yesterday - difference being, he put his laces through it and it rocketed in.
So he can do it. Which makes it more frustrating I guess.
Even the Kakay one - he's scored in the past from quite a similar position (Stoke away a couple of years back?). He had so much goal to aim at, a fairly average shot would've sufficed.
Warburton's small margins at play.
Mind you awful defending for the goals. We bought on an extra defender and got worse.
We were pretty comfortable as far as I am concerned but missed chance(s) and then failed to deal with a couple of their attacking plays. Very disappointing indeed.

Cook being weak in the air was a feature of the Plymouth game and he's been too easily out-muscled on the back post for their winner.

Field is one of those players who seem to kick the ball almost always with the side of the foot. I'm sure he did that with his tame effort on goal.
He'll be low in confidence at the moment too, given his continued dip in form. I know some are questioning whether can he fit into Cifuentes' style, but he seemed to do okay in his year under Warburton. However, I think we might see him benched soon with Colback taking his place.

It was against Brentford during lockdown.

Out muscled!!!, he was beaten at the back post, very decent ball in. Their players reacted far quicker than our defenders (Dykes was closest to the scorer) to strike it home.

Gazza, trying to blame Dykes for the 2nd goal is bizarre,
Goal-scorer was'nt Dykes man when defending initial cross, just Dykes was quickest to react when ball came back off the post straight into the path of their goal-scorer,
Cook has lost his man, let him get an early jump on him and from that point its a lottery, that is rank poor defending by Cook,
Cook needs to focus more on his own game and less on looking for scape-goats as he did yet again after being beaten by his man for that 2nd goal.

Paal's defending for the winner was criminal just allowing Bannan to skip past him and cross it 😔
Dunne wasn't much better for the first
Ultimately though if Field scores than chance we win the game
Dunne should have got tighter but their lad had pace, but what line were the other defenders playing in the box, they should have been touch-tight not gifting the Wednesday attackers 5-10yards space to attack the ball!
Schoolboy defending to drop back so deep leaving a couple of Wednesday yards of space in the penalty area to attack the ball.

Paal has been doing that ALL season. He lets attackers cross the ball more times than he tackles or blocks-- a liability!
WHY WHY WHY do the R's (more often than not) throw away a lead or a draw after 85 minutes?? They do it time and again, this season, last season and forget the comments that every team does this...the R's are consistently snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory! etc.

This team especially seem to drop back so deep that we concede the same goals over and over again
I mean how many cut back goals have we conceded over the last 2 years !?
You would have thought we all that experience in the side they would push up at least another 20 yards to make it harder for the opposition

We can moan about the defending but Field has to at least put his laces through it. Ball was put on a plate in the box. If it is saved, blocked then fine but my old mum would save that pass he made in the box. Then Kakay….in the box, with time, you have to hit the target.

If Field puts his laces through that chance, we lead 2-0 with 5 minutes to go. But the defending was poor for both goals;

No not at all, just making comment. (Trying to say that I am blaming Dykes is bazaar!!, perhaps I am commenting because we did not have a defender next to the scorer). As it happens I thought Dykes did OK outside of the attacking box no goals yet again.
Cook did not loose his man, he did not win the header which was actually a pin point cross. Simple as that. Cook is doing well for us this season imo.

Kakay's shot was nowhere near as easy - on an angle, not that near to the goal, with defenders in the way - as challenging for that cross at the far post that led to their goal. Especially as it was a defender defending rather than a defender with a fairly difficult chance. Field though was in space straight on goal, no excuse not to do a reasonable shot. Also why was Dunne so far out challenging for that ball that he ended up not stopping anyway and therefore was not in the right position to stop the shot for the goal.

Extended highlights here with the Field and Kakay chances...
Field chance on his left foot, not as strong as his right?
Kakay's one more of a cross than a shot. Player at far post could have gambled more.
In our row we often talk about what a good striker Field would make if he could shoot. He has a natural knack of being in the right place to receive the ball in the opposition penalty area. But he's really, really crap at shooting. Maybe he shouldn't bother as he might get into other people's space.

The annoying thing is, if Field had scored that chance against Rotherham, the confidence boost it would have given him, he would probably have done better with his chances against Norwich and Weds.
