I think JS does an excellent job…of obfuscation & avoiding some of the tricky questions he doesn’t want to directly answer

Fully appreciate on some media channels he may be restricted in how he can respond.

I'm not sure what anyone expects him to say.
Literally that last guy who spoke out about anything was put on gardening leave.
On the offish channel you are not going to hear too many home truths. On the match commentary you can hear Andy Sinton biting his own tongue sometimes, when a winger doesn't cross or yet another corner fails to beat the first man...
I was amazed recently to hear JS come out and say that his #1 priority (signing) for next season would be to have everyone fit for longer.
This is in direct opposition to our head of performance declaring we've had 90% player availability all season, [s]if you ignore the really serious injuries that happened in pre season and count some of the first team squad as development players...[/s]
I think JS must be in a comfortable place to say this now, so lets see what happens. But, if you are looking for open and honest communication via the club website to us then I think you will be left wanting.
It's rare to see a manager dig out a player or blame the team. I think the last manager we had who did it was Critchley and I'm not sure the team played for him again after his reality check.

Well bottom line is he doesn't want to get into trouble with the Child King (managing him as best as possible).
Compare say with Cifuentes and his facial expression during offish interviews, in his last few months as manager

He's very good at trotting out phrases that mean very little. It doesn't help that the interviewer keeps lobbing soft ball questions at him. At this stage you'd expect to get a little insight into his take on the number and length of injuries to key players. Also what would be needed to make next season better, rather than platitudes about inexperience at this level.

I think there is plenty that he could say without digging anyone out or taking any pot-shots at any individual or the club. For example, in a pre-match interview at this stage of the season he could talk about what players are available and hint at how we might set up to get something out of the game without the regular players. I realise he can't give the game away but there is never any mention of how we might need to change the system or how we can try to find a way to be more successful in these types of games. Cifuentes came out and said 'we need to change the system' as I remember and it went on to reap results.

I don't want to start a row, but show me an official pre-match from any manager where they say something like;
"We've had a look at Ipswich and they have a problem at left back, so we are going to play diagonals all game at this player and try and isolate them 1vs1"
Or, "They have a goalkeeper who doesn't like crosses, so we are going to put it in the mixer whenever we can and send all the big lads up for corners"
The days are gone of Clough or Bielsa announcing their squad ahead of a game
There is no tactical advantage in letting our fans know who is fit or has a chance of playing.
I for one hope that players like Hayden who swung a leg last time out are given a lovely chance to rest their bums on the bench and I'd rather see someone from the DS have a swing (even if its a miss) as this is what an end of season game should be about (finding out what we have or havent got for next season)

He absolutely does, but look what happened to Warbs and Cifuentes here when they didn't? With Christian as his boss I'm not surprised he tries to say as little as possible.
The Warbs thing still rankles with me. I think he did two things wrong didn't he?
1). Came to a head with Les and Lee by not playing DS players, going against the game model of producing (and selling) talent. I think this came out in interviews, where he said the talent wasn't there (despite the club wanting it to be there). -- I'd say he was largely proved right, when the new CEO/DoF stated later that we would be keeping 23 year old development players around in the hope they eventually came good. 2). Going for promotion and publicly stating it. In what would be his last season Warbs took us to the limit of P&S by not selling any "stars" and making big contract signings to players like Austin and Johanson. This was the first time I can recall since maybe Warnock where a manager stated they were aiming for playoffs at the least.
Both of these points shouldn't have ultimately been MW's problem. The DoF should be in charge of getting the development correct and the CEO shouldn't be writing silly contracts for players at the end of their usefulness.
Now it looks like the club is trying /tried to address both of these its such a shame we don't have that manager/coach like Warbs anymore. I'd love to see him back at QPR in an upstairs position making sensible decisions and explaining them clearly to us.
Still, with the setup we've got now the boss writes the theme tune and sings the theme tune, so I don't see it changing too much. I think Wombat called it in another thread. I reckon cycling Ben will manage to lose the medical side of his performance role so he avoids looking bad. The decision to rush back important players for nothing games is looking sillier by the minute
