The Sending Off 20:12 - Sep 19 with 11751 viewsWatfordR

A few different opinions I've seen. Having seen footage of the incident, my feeling is that if the laws say that's a sending off, the game really has "gone".

Cirkin has stretched to get his foot to the ball. He's reached it and the ball is clearly gone before the Preston player gets anywhere near the scene. I can't see any evidence that Cirkin is out of control, and if anything I felt the Preston player collided into Cirkin, and it might even have been a foul the other way.

I am genuinely incredulous.

It's a foul to us. Cirkin has lamped the ball, his studs have not touched the other player who has arrived late not touched the ball and their calves have clashed.

It looks bad from the refs angle granted but from Ellerslie it looked a terrible descion and would hope its rescinded

Was it the ref's decision or the linos?

I think originally he gave a free kick to them, wrong, then the lino told him a refund, wrong again . It was literally in front of me, got to appeal surely.
Was the ref Gavin Wards twin brother ?

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

Sorry its a straight red. Watch the reaction of the QPR players, including Cirkin, there is no major protest. He knew straight away he was going.

Perhaps if he could control the ball a bit better he wouldn't have to make the challenge. Idiot.

Poll: How is Nourry cooking so far ? 🤣

Completely disagree. He got the ball and the player fell on top of him...zero contact with his boots. I hope we appeal it for all the good it'll do.

He flew into his attempt to recover the ball from his poor touch in a reckless manner with excessive force, it’s a red card.

Never a red, Preston players all shouting in the ref's face and it persuaded him it was serious, when it wasn't. Cirkin got the ball and the Preston player went into him

Watch the highlights. The Ref awards a free kick and stops walking towards the incident.

Preston players surround him and only then does he produce the red card.

There is no reaction from the linesman.

As I said in the match thread if the Referee thinks that Cirkin's tackle warrants a straight red card then surely he gives it immediately without worrying about a free kick.

I still don't think that Cirkin's tackle was out of control or reckless. Even the two Preston fans in the video posted think it wasn't a red.

It was not even a 50 / 50 the Preston player is late, As I said I can see why from certain angles you might think that but from the Ellerslie side you could see clearly

Never a red card IMO but strongly agree the game is gone .
Watched the Arsenal highlights ( Brighton brilliant again some last 7 days ) and the Ref completly bottled it not sending Rice off the clearest red card somehow ended up being yellow
Also the most blatend take out of a standing leg by Gabriel in the penalty area waved away yes the game is gone.
QPR are throwing away points this season yet saving them as well I dont know whether to be happy or frustrated

I mean, if he's sliding in to stick the ball into the net, and the Preston player gets caught afterwards, that's never going to a red card, is it? The goal is never being disallowed is it?

Was the PNE player late or did Cirkin get there first because he recklessly flew into the ‘tackle’ hence why he couldn’t control the follow through into the PNE player?

I get why some think it’s not a red, but for me it is, it’s out of control and could have seriously injured his opponent.

But he didn't follow through into the Preston player. The Preston player actually followed through onto Cirkin. He was so late getting to the contact point I'd imagine he had time to pull out of any challenge. It really wasn't close.

Missed the incident in real time myself as I was looking further up the pitch but the initial reaction from everyone around me was it was a red.

Watching the replay I think he's got the red for the studs up part (which actually doesn't seem to make any contact) but it's the way the follow through from Cirkin that goes into the Preston bloke's planted leg that does it for me.

Either way not too many complaints.

Cirkin kicked the ball into the players leg so he can’t have been that late and then his follow through, which looked high, catches the PNE player.

I’ve only seen one angle but have watched multiple times, from what I’ve seen it’s a clear red. Other angles might show something different.

Never a Red, Cirkin clearly gets the ball and the player comes in late on him, don’t think Cirkin was out of control or showing studs. Unbelievable decision, Ref was definitely intimidated by the Preston players in his face!

Angle of the ball suggests the Preston player got there first. It appears that Cirkin's left foot didn't touch the Preston player and that the Preston player fell over his leg.

There is always going to be an element of follow through with a sliding tackle but usually that involves both legs. The real contact between the two players appears to be around Cirkin's knee area.

Looking at the incident in real time you can begin to understand, just begin, why the decision was made. However watching how the whole incident plays out I am convinced that the decision was made due to the Preston players surrounding the Referee and he caved in.

I haven't seen the replay, but I was at the game today. I didn't think it was a red initially but there was a noticeable crunching noise when the players came together that I could hear from the upper loft which couldve swayed it. Really not sure if it was a red or not, but i thought the ref was fairly poor. Some of the decisions he gave both ways were weird (from my view point anyway). No idea why Saito was booked in the 2nd half, there was corner we got that seemed to touch no PNE player. The only thing i respected him for was the corner he gave us for the GK taking the piss with the goal kicks.

Just seen the replay and im still not sure, so I dont know how people can be so convinced it was one but you run the risk if you go to ground and slide in like that in an area of the pitch where you dont need to it. It didn't seem that bad to me though. Fair enough on the yellow if saito dived but I generally thought the ref was a bit too quick to get his cards out.

There was that drum sound of two players in contact with the ball from either side at the same time, but the card was for clearing out his standing leg with the follow through. Wouldn’t have been a red a couple of decades ago, but no surprise now.
