From what I've seen/read there could be a real possibility of a cyber issue in the next month. The government are going to know that advising people to stock up is a dangerous thing to do so they must have some legitimate knowledge that something could happen.

think your 3rd paragraph is far nearer to the truth. I live in a more deprived part of the country, if SHTF i think they'll be alot of 'looting out' not 'stocking up'..

I think most people do but perhaps not food and water they could consume direct from a can/container.
If the energy system goes down and there's no running water all those dried long life foods are a bit difficult to consume and your food in the fridge/freezer is going to spoil.
I agree, I think it is a bit of a dangerous thing to come out with as a government but maybe there are rumblings of some sort of infrastructure attack in the near future planned. If it did happen they could at least say 'well, we did say to be prepared'.
This world is just going to get more and more unstable because the people in control do not. give a f*** about changing things now to help the majority. As long as they and their lobbying mates have the money and power why would they care. |  | | |
