2026 world cup 21:41 - Apr 10 with 1737 viewsGloucs_R

To be held jointly in Mexico, USA and Canada. Nobody else bidding.

International football is bllx.

Russia - 70s hooligans

Qatar - that great football nation in the desert

North America - only 12 hour flights between games to look forward to.

There was a suggestion by Gulati that all the games "could" be played on the West Coast. They probably won't be, but it's possible that all the games up until the quarter-finals would. Then they'll move them to NY, Toronto, Mexico City etc.

Anyway it seems the group games won't be based in cities so much as areas eg: Vancouver-Seattle.

Let's hope that (reigning World Champions) Englands group games are in Orkney and that Karl has got a big house.

2026 was always going to the US (they probably deserve it for their work on blatter)

Most the games in the US

The United States, they had agreed, would be the senior partner in the three-nation bid, and would host 60 of the 80 games and every game of the quarterfinals through the final. Mexico and Canada would each host 10 games.

We all know FIFA is bent so if Mexico, USA and Canada are the only ones putting in bids the outer Hebrides are likely to be the winners

Hold up so Mexico get to host another World cup after having it in 70 & 86
USA had one already in 94
France have had the Euros in 84, 2016, and the world cup in 98
Germany have had the World cup in 74 , 2006 the Euros in 88 and now will host the Euros in 2024

meanwhile we have had 1 world cup and 1 euros to host , despite having the best stadiums and transport links

what a load of old bollox

Spot on.

Of the big European nations, France and Germany have had way more than their share of the big tournaments in the last 40 or so years. Don't know any bidding history but Italy (1 WC 1 EC) and Spain (1 WC) are in the same boat as us (only counting Euro Champs since 1980 when it became more than just a four team finals and the hosts didn't have to qualify as Spain held the second finals in 1964).

Firstly 48 teams is a shambles (Panini album will be a nightmare!!!!) and hosting it over three countries,?complete lack of atmosphere building up around the tournament.
FIFA are f*cking this up, someone stop them.

I understand where you're coming from, but FIFA has to spread the goodies around all it's members, not just Europe and South America – the only places with multiple individual nations capable of hosting such a competition. UEFA is getting the next one (Russia), so Europe can't really expect another for some time. In 2026 it'll be thirty two years since CONCACAF's last final. Yes, the US and Mexico have had it before, but they're the only countries in the region able to host it independently. By adding token Canadian involvement they're at least tryingto ring the changes a bit.

What's wrong with England, Scotland, Wales, Dublin and Paris? Sorry to leave out Belfast but I don't think they have a good enough stadium, at present, but one could possibly be built. A lot less travelling, full houses all round. Put the unattractive fixtures in the decent compact stadiums like Swansea.

I do believe the 1986 venue was altered relatively late on as it was due to take place in Colombia.

Maybe it's me, but with all this modern technology and social media, couldn't we just host a world cup over Skype?
