| Hardest Rangers XI on 21:24 - Oct 10 with 2278 views | dixiedean | Is ‘hard’ a euphemism for ‘dirty’ or do we mean proper hard ? Ainsworth was hard - remember him trying to run off a spiral leg fracture ? ! Older folk will recall Webb , McLintock , Bobby Keetch , Allan Harris . I’d say Big Danny has to be worth a mention . Pls let’s not have Barton mentioned in this - being a cowardly thug is not hard . How about Armand Traore? No not really | | | |

No, I mean hard. You're right - no place for fake-hard thugs like Barton.

| Hardest Rangers XI on 22:14 - Oct 10 with 2165 views | EalingHoop81 | Lovely guy by all accounts but I can’t see how Big Danny Shittu cannot be the starting CB. Made of rock, 6ft3, 15 stone of muscle and tough not dirty | | | |
| Hardest Rangers XI on 22:14 - Oct 10 with 2163 views | Myke | Burridge Eddie Kelly Macca Dennis Mancini Hill Derry Givens Jones Ainsworth Ferdinand Might not be the best balanced team formation wise, but I bet they wouldn't concede too many goals from corners! | | | |

There's that footage from a classic in 1976 I think where he comes out last and runs around the centre circle waving to the crowd. It's almost like a bull run.

| Hardest Rangers XI on 22:20 - Oct 10 with 2146 views | EalingHoop81 | Impey is a great shout at LW and Rufus must be right up there at LB. I saw both him and Impey run half way across the pitch to chin someone in different games. I would exclude Ruddock and Vinny Jones as they barely played for us and didn’t give a t0ss. Diakite may be excluded for many reasons but was a walking two footed challenge waiting to happen - probably more dirty than hard. George Santos was pretty useful - I think he was sent off in that infamous Warnock Sheff Utd vs West Brom game having only been on the pitch for 2 mins having completely gone through someone. | | | |

| Hardest Rangers XI on 23:10 - Oct 10 with 2037 views | jtuck | The late Dave Clement was as hard as nails. Fenwick is a good call. Vinnie Jones does not count, I reckon, as his was a cameo in the hoops after a career of destruction with the Crazy Gang. And the old cliche is true that defenders in the 70s were harder and meaner and allowed to get way with referee-sanctioned near murder. | |

Oh yeah. Taking the ball and the player was pretty much the job description back then.

Which goes to show just how talented the likes of Bowles, Best and Marsh were back in the day. Weaving their magic on crap pitches and up against 'uncompromising' defenders.

Should be room in this XI for the wingers who would keep going while neanderthal full-backs continually tried to put them in the stands. At least in a CB/CF battle there's bit of give and take, but the winger just has to pick himself up and go again. Ainsworth obviously and, yeah, probably, Impey but I'd have Dave "no shin-pads" Thomas and Andy Sinton under consideration. Chariie Austin ought to get a mention at CF, I remember him trying to get up and score after some horrendous injury

Too true. I remember one of the Sunday supplements ran a 'before and after' the match photo of George Best's legs. The after pic was seriously ugly.
