Interesting to hear Warbs reveal last night that before the Luton game, he challenged the players to average 2 points per game for the rest of the season, thus reaching a 78 point total that should guarantee the play offs.
He implied that if we beat Peterboro on Sunday, that could be seen as job done for this week, namely 6 points from 3 games, averaging 2, which we wouldn't get from x 2 away draws, creditable as that might have looked.
If we beat Posh he's thus aiming for 16 points from the last 8. 4 wins / 4 draws, or 5 wins / 1 draw / 2 defeats. Not easy.
I guess much depends on which Sheff U turns up in those two matches - the one that thumped Boro or the one that got thumped by Cov. Will Preston, Stoke and Swansea be on the beach? How good actually are Huddersfield? Will Fulham have one of their occasional 'not quite so good' days against us? Will Derby be down and out by Easter?
It's a mug's game predicting scores in this division, but it's so much better being in this position heading into the last international break than mid-table obscurity or peering over our shoulder. |  |

It'll be a bastard if we don't make the PO's having been there or thereabouts for so long, having said that I wont burst out crying If we slip away and don't make It, the season isn't over by a long shot but It's been a good one so far apart from the usual cock ups and blips that all clubs go through.
Next season Is the one for me, we have some bloody good players in our squad that actually belong to us, with a bit of tweaking here and there and a few signings I reckon we'll be stronger next season.
Anyway It's not over yet, we're still in there.

I agree Ted that one more season would make us stonger and serious play-off contenders, if IF we can hold on to everyone and make a few additions. I suppose the one good thing about our recent form is that it shows that the players that were touted as a 'shoe in' to the prem are actually quite some distance from the finished article. Dickie, would probably be the best example. I thought he was better last night - maybe his goal v Luton gave him some confidence - but his form for the last ten games or so was well short of premier league level. Likewise, Dykes and recently Dieng by virtue of the fact that they have been injured. Willock is the only one of genuine premier class in my view.
Of course, the flip side is that if we don't make at least one 'big money' sale, then we cannot improve the team overall, so if we did lose willock for say £10m then we could get in the speedy striker and two wing back that we need to make us stronger.
I would like to make play-offs, because (a) I feel we deserve it and (b) the experience would stand to us and (C) it would be concrete evidence of progress, but I wouldn't shed any tears if we avoided a 'Norwich' situations, even if that may be financially viable, it has to be soul destroying for the fans. | | | |

I'm a little surprised if MW has actually said that to the players, I feel that's more for public consumption and an attempt to calm us fans down a bit.
It would be a real move away from the conventional "one game at a time" approach, and it also, imo, would suggest to the players, don't worry if we don't do it in this game, there's another two coming along shortly we can perform in, which isn't conveying the approach I'd particularly want to hear.. |  | | |

Not sure about this - there are a lot of Teams below us who will fancy their chances of play-offs if they can put a run together, down to Coventry in 11th, maybe Baggies in 12th. I think 77/78 for 6th this year. Personally I think we'll come up short but still think it's been a successful and enjoyable season and something to kick on from next year. |  | | |

To be honest I like the fact we're playing teams around us in the run-in. If we get some wins then that helps solidify our play off position and takes points off them. If we lose them then it shows unfortunately we've not been quite good enough this season for that top six finish.
But as mentioned elsewhere, if I'd been offered us battling out for a play off place with nine games to go, I'd have snapped your hand off. |  |

Yeah, with the upper end of the league, and particularly 3rd to 10th place, being so compressed almost anything could happen.
There are six pointers for most teams coming up that could well be the deciders. For us, Sheff Utd twice of course, and Huddersfield. Those games make wins against the likes of Peterborough, Derby and others essential. However, it would be so QPR to lose those and beat the top teams. | | | |
