RIP JB. I suppose this makes Bob Malcolm the world’s most famous living ice-cream man.
Many years ago, when Cornwell was still lead singer, the band were interviewed and asked what their biggest hit, Golden Brown, was about ? Singer Hugh, Bassist Jean, Organist Dave (RiP also) All replied Heroin. Drummer Jet, replied “Is it ? I thought was about Toast” !?!
Not really sure why I /my crowd never took to the Stranglers. Age (though that didn't stop us liking Charlie Harper), that they could play, had money, all of the above, dunno. But truth be told, they knocked out a few tunes that were pretty good, and although I never bought any of their viny, enjoy their more 'up-tempo' contributions to the 70's the odd time they're on the radio...or advert! Saw them at the Roundhouse, Red Cow, Nashville Rooms and numerous other venues, spoke to Jet Black a couple of times and it was like talking to my dad to be honest. Anyway, a life well lived.
Love the Stranglers. Too musical to be "real Punks". Only Hugh and JJB left now sadly. RIP big fella.
Yep I agree with the bit about being musical. In retrospect I think the reason I liked them so much was because Dave Greenfield’s organ sound reminded me of Ray Manzarek from The Doors.

Perfect comparison. The Stranglers were like the Doors in many ways. Always loved a Stranglers gig 😎
