One of the comments for this piece nailed it I think - parachute payments and yo-yo clubs are the big issue for us in the championship. A semi final home.advantage decided by the luck of the draw just feels very untraditional and unrewarding for the team that gets screwed into an away match. I’d remove Premier League clubs from the Caraboa Cup, make it an EFL cup only. Then get rifd of that poxy pointless Cup that div 1 & 2 teams play with Premiership Youth teams.
It’s not like Premiership Teams (or Us until the 1st time this year) take it seriously and put out strong teams until the Semis/Final.
I guess it would leave 72 teams, so it would need work to reduce it to 64.
Preliminary/Qualifying round 1 or Bye’s to the 2nd round and reams promoted from the Conference replacing those relegated from D2.

I agree Prem clubs should be in FA Cup abd should start earlier too.... give Borehamwood a chance to knock out Everton.
In a way it's really sad what time and money has done to the FA Cup it used to be an event the whole family even those who didn't like football sat down and watched.
Gen Z and beyond will never really understand how that was.
The other cups such as Carabao should just be EFL teams at this stage.

Totally agree on both cups.
The League Cup needs the Premiership clubs for both financial and status reasons, without them it would be as pointless as the trophy previously known as the Freight Rover cup (or whatever company sponsorship name it had).
As for the no replays in the FA Cup, that was an incredibly selfish action by the Premiership clubs. They often just play the reserves anyway, yet they have deprived clubs of much needed income and possibly further progress. | | | |

That should mean some new design seats that offset the appalling legroom and maybe a bit left over to upgrade the tannoy system in SAR.

Sad to say, especially as it's the only major competition we've won, and I am a big believer in tradition and continuity, but honestly at this point I would just scrap the League Cup. Football is supposed to be fun and entertaining for the fans. There's just not the interest in it anymore, from clubs or fans. The earlier rounds are a mixture of top PL clubs playing their youngsters and lower clubs trying to go out and avoid extra fixtures beacuase 9 times out of 10 a PL C team is stronger than a Championship team, and when you get to the later rounds Man City et al can just play a stronger team and win a trophy that's so meaningless to them their fans don't even fill Wembley.
The FA Cup still has a certain magic to it. It's still "The Cup". I'd reinstate the replays and also add the bonus that winning the Cup means you earn the right to play in the Premier League. This means that an extra Championship club could be promoted, unlikely as that it, or that an extra PL club with a dross season finishing in 17th can go down if someone below them won the cup.
Incidentally, I think having the extra European competition, the Conference League is great. Probably just intended as another money making scheme but I think it's actually great for fans. Meaningless to the likes of Man U and Chelsea but great for fans of teams like Palace and West Ham. There's no reason why interesting, fun fixtures should be exclusive to the top few teams in the country. Would actually love to see more things like that in football, games where fans can actually get excited and play someone else rather than the same fixtures over and over again just trying to finish mid table. |  | | |
