Going on from the despair thread, what’s the earliest match any of us went to?

Anyone seen a pre War match?

Well 70 in October we lived at 103 Goldhawk Road above Browns hairdressers ( now long gone ) my Dad and me would walk done to HQ in those days Div3 South, Brain Bedford was the main man up front. Always remember on one game as a kid my dad and I and some of his mates flew up from Heathrow to Manchester for the 3rd round of the FA Cup against Burnley, my first flight and it was delayed by fog in London, we only just made the match. Burnley were a top Division 1 side in those days they beat us 6-0 we had a brute of a centre forward by the name of George Whitelaw he battered them to no avail, Ray Pointer got amongst the scorers for them. So many ups and downs in my time with the Rs and the love affair with them is as strong today as it was all those years ago it's been fcuking great.

Course it does. Your in bronze medal position at the moment but given your commitment
To the club your QPR age is probably 105or so.

In reply to Paesanu of course I am. It was my now 54 year old first son who convinced me
to adopt QPR as my numero uno team following a lifetime of Grimsby Town.

Tomorrow my 20 year old first grandson is escorting me to the match as my old ticker is misfiring
worse than our strikers . I’m dreaming of double hat trick s tomorrow.

Mylot I was at the Burnley cup tie. I went up on the train, 6th January 1962 we lost 6-1
and I'm not sure but I think that Whitelaw scored the goal. Didn't we make some noise though, great stuff. They had many internationals playing that day and totally outclassed us but the team and supporters never gave up.
I also lived in Goldhawk road no 241.

68 and first went on first of October 1966. Grew up in Eltham in SE London till I was 10 where Charlton were the local club. Remember the first match my Dad took me to see was when they were playing Blackpool with Stanley Matthews in the team in front of a crowd of 50,000 plus at the Valley.
Then we moved over to Hillingdon and didn’t support anyone for a few years until that October day in 66 when I was supposed to be playing in a club cricket game that got rained off. My Dad suggested to me and my brother that we went to QPR as it was close, they were playing good football and we wouldn’t have to push and shove to get in like at the first division grounds.
They beat Grimsby 5-1 that day, scored 4 in each of the next three games we went to and obviously had the fairytale League Cup win six months later after a cup run that included magical victories at LR over Leicester and Birmingham. Pretty hard not to be hooked after that!

I'm now feeling a youngish 66!

I was a glory hunter & first saw Rangers away to Orient soon after the League Cup win. It was a rather tedious 0-0 in front of a very large away following shortly before Rodney got married.

My first visit to Loftus Road was for the first home game the following season - a 2-0 win against Norwich with goals (I think) from Keen & I Morgan. That season finished with the wonderful trip to Villa Park in May 1968!

However, I did not really become a Ranger until the relegation of '68/69 as I had started playing adult football in 1967 aged 15 & Chesham United were my footballing love. My professional "team" were Liverpool until I saw the light on the road to Damascus! I was a fully fledged Ranger from about April 1969.

Comfortably mid table at 57, I was born 3 1/2 miles from the ground in Central Middlesex hospital.

Dad grew up in Cobbold Road, a mile away from LR.

1st game I remember seeing live was the League Cup Final.

65 years young lived in Franklyn Road and Yewfield Road before moving north. Would have made us neighbours to your dad😜 earliest memories of watching at the white city in the early sixties.

I'm 55 this year.
My first game was a 2.1 defeat at Goodison Park during the 74-75 season. Don Givens giving us the lead just after half time and Bob Latchford scoring a 90th minute winner for a top of the league Everton.
We were the better team by a country mile. Stan was kicked all over the park that day.
Despite that defeat I was absolutely hooked.

A veritable pup of 52 years. I'm approaching a paltry 45 years following that shower on 1 January next year.

New Year's Day 1974, QPR played Manchester United at Loftus Road. Although history recalls the day more for it being George Best's final game for United, it also happened to be the first game my dad took me to. Admittedly, it was to see Best, as he was my dad's favourite player.

I have two regrets in football. First, I used to drink in a pub Bestie drank in (I know, narrows it down to 50 possible establishments) and while I can only claim to have been on nodding terms with him; I never plucked up the courage to tell George 'he' was arguably the reason I ended up supporting QPR!

The other regret, while on work experience in Birmingham in 1994, we ended the week in a bar. Next thing, one of my colleagues says, 'that's your Bob Hazell up there at the bar!'

There was something about Bobby my dad just loved. During the semi-final, we all knew how Bobby handled Cyrille Regis would go along way to determining the outcome. A few minutes in, they launch one: my dad grabs me like he's a vice and when Bobby sent the ball and Cyrille back where they came from, he turned to me with this manic look on his face and says, 'We're going to Wembley. We're going to Wembley!'

I wanted to go up and buy Bobby a beer, as my dad would have been turning in his grave if I didn't. But total and utter stage fright at being in His presence...bottled it!

My first taste of the Rs was in the 1962/63 season, it was coming to the end of the season and my Dad took me at 11yrs of age to me first professional game at the White City and what a huge ground you felt so far away from the pitch, but boy do I wish we had bit the bullet and took it permanently look where we could be now but that’s history and we‘ve moved on, I saw the last 2 matches at the ground and the strange thing is that both games were played in midweek a Monday v Watford 2-2 and Wednesday 22nd May v Coventry which was my Birthday present (birthday 24th) we lost 1-3 and from that day to this the Rs are in my blood, my last visit to the White City was in the 1966 World Cup Uruguay v France, not sure if it was ever used for football again after the World Cup.
West London boy lived on the Uxbridge Rd above Sketchley Dry Cleaners mum was the manager, got transferred to Australia 20yrs ago by my company, 68 next birthday and we still travel from Perth,WA, to see at least 4 or 5 matches a season, my son and grandson will be taking in 4 matches during December & January, me and Mrs PerthRs will be getting one game in January (only in the UK for 9 Days) and then back in April for our last 4 games.
Not as long as some of you but been hanging in there for 57yrs now and I would love to get another 50yrs in, who knows we may have that new ground by that time!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just came across this thread and have really enjoyed reading all the stories. My God do we have an old fan base! I'm just about to turn 65. Brought up in St Stephens Avenue, just off the Goldhawk Rd. My dad was into Gaelic Football and Hurling so I went to my first football matches with a mate and his dad who was unfortunately a Fulham fan. It was only after several trips to Craven Cottage that a big kid down our street came up to me one day and said in quite a threatening tone "I hear you've been going to Fulham, you should be supporting your local team". He took me to a South East Counties cup game at Loftus Rd the following Saturday morning and I was hooked for life. I started watching the R's regularly towards the end of the 63/64 season and I'm still going to this day. Despite the ups and many downs I wouldn't swap QPR for anyone. I think we must all need counselling!

Ron posted this on a very similar thread:

"My first game was November 1948
We beat Northampton 2-0 and won The 3rd South League that season.
Our first ever promotion."

I'm a bit concerned, though. That post was his most recent and was 30th January this year. Has anyone seen or heard anything of him? Of course, my constant carping about Holloway might have just put him off LFW for a while...

I'm 50, first game was August 76, lost 4-0 to Everton

Would have been earlier but my Dad worked in the print industry and worked Saturday's. Eventually my Gooner grandad took me to games until Dad was made redundant.

Dad hit 70 years of following/attending QPR earlier this year (did a thread at the time) at the age of 80 and despite failing health still has a season ticket and also trundles off to Hayes & Yeading when we are away. He can't even work a mobile phone so won't be sharing his wisdom on here anytime soon

His family originates on the council estate between the ground and Acton so that's our connection. He still lives in Hayes so I pick him up on the way in from Berkshire; long may it continue. Neither of us have any expectations but turn up and spend a few hours watching this crap, at least we eventually got to share a win in a final vs Derby, having done the 81, 86 & Cardiff play off matches.
