| Oxford match thread on 16:05 - Aug 29 with 3106 views | LongsufferingR | Main takeaways for me: We need the energy of Thomas Oteh is finished Hope Smyth gets a run in the side No point buying the big bruiser of a striker if you can't get the ball to him BOS seems to have regressed. Where's the confidence to just run past L1 defenders? | | | |

| Oxford match thread on 16:16 - Aug 29 with 2896 views | EmpireStateRanger | No freaking out from me. We looked dire last preseason and there are moves to be made. Still concerned about our defending. Realty no improvement there at all, and I think we need more than Dickie to shore that up. Important to nail down the right striker on loan. And if BOS leaves, we need to make sure we have someone in mind to replace his creativity. | | | |
| Oxford match thread on 16:29 - Aug 29 with 2759 views | bosh67 | Wondering if Ramkilde is one of the players with a slight niggle? He looked like he could do something in the last game. I don't worry too much about these games. I remember after the Borehamwood game last season people saying that we would be certs for relegation. Similarly we have played games overseas in previous pre-seasons and smashed teams and then started poorly when it counted. We need to get the centre back thing sorted and we need another one given the intensity of this season, although Gubbins may be okay but a big step up. We need to either move Manning to centre midfield and give him the 10 role or find a playmaker in some shape or form. Too much to burden Chair with if there's no back up. Hopeful Manning will stay for now. We need another proper striker to go alongside Dykes because without him we really will be in trouble. BOS definitely is distracted and his 'agent team' aren't helping him much by the sounds of it. If he doesn't want to play he needs to move on. So for me we need 2 more CBs, another creative midfielder and another established forward at this level. Do we look at a player like Jordan Rhodes who at 30 is very much in need of a fresh start and doesn't seem to be in Sheff Weds plans. Probably would get him for a million and although he's had a few poor seasons he has a very good record at this level ( 1 in 2 believe it or not) and he has scored most of his 213 goals against us at Loftus Road. Like Wells, you get him settled and firing and we could be a good fit for him. | |

| Oxford match thread on 15:24 - Aug 29 by BrianMcCarthy | Chair certainly more dangerous at No.10. |
Agree, you can't shove him out wide. He needs to be playing behind the centre forward. Amos also more effective in a deeper role, playing as 10 just does not suit him. Looked a lot better with Thomas starting last week and Chair more central. Kakay good again, he has been a great re-find since lockdown. Todd Kane say no more than hopefully he works out what colours we play in.

It's early days yet mate, far too early to be getting all concerned. So far it's just the exit door that's been rattling, loads of time for the professional people at the club to bolster the squad and eventually I'm sure the defence will click and show themselves as a well drilled robust unit. I've still got faith that Oteh and Dyke can replace the goals that've been lost, both just need to get up to fitness and grab some confidence. Really believe we could be going places this season and may surprise one or two. I'm almost convinced to renew my ST now even if it does work out at £21.00 for a dodgy stream (again I'm sure there's people in the club we can put our faith in to get the streaming right as well) Onwards..........

"“I speak to him a lot and can only say great things about QPR because of my affiliation with the club and how much I loved it there,” said Mackie. “I’ve only got positive things to say about him too. He’s matured massively. “I played with him for two seasons and last season he matured into not just a good footballer but a good leader as well. “He’s getting better and better as he matures with age and as a footballer. “He’s very comfortable with the ball and is a good player. “I think he’d be a great addition for QPR and I’d love to see them sign him.”

Kelly: 5 Poor distribution and took too long on the ball. Lucky to get away with several late clearances. Since lockdown, Lums has cut out his stupid lazyness and casual clearances. Lums is better than Kelly on this showing. We should sell Kelly even if it's for less than Lums. Kakay: 7 Solid. Nice move with BoS almost created a goal. Looks good. Masterson: 5 At fault for the goal and was all over the place in the first half. Not really an imposing CB. He needs more time to develop. Barbet: 6 Decent but could not dominate that much as he had to cover for Masterson too much. Wallace 6: Decent, with nice overlapping runs and some okay crosses. Also, his positioning was good as he was clearly outpaced. Shows Manning what positioning is all about. Cameron: 4 Really poor. Not in the game at all. Passed him by and gave the ball away a lot when he had it. Unless he's saving himself for the real matches, he's past it now. Amos went deep to cover for him. Here we learned that Amos can play deep after all. Last season he will be with us for sure. I doubt he will play that many games. Ball: 6 Not as good as the last game, but still a decent effort. Had to play CB in the second half and was an okay back-up there. Better in the midfield of course. BOS: 5 Not really in interested. Flashed of skill but not really up for it. Amos: 6 Better from him. Tried really hard but a bit too hard. But he put in a shift. If he can control the ball a bit better when receiving it he might be able to make something happen in the real games. Also played well in the deep covering for Cameron at times, which was nice to see. Chair: 6 Tried hard and ran at them. But tired in the 2nd half. Better behind the forward than on the wings. Dykes: 5 Not his fault but not really in the game. Didn't run around much. Didn't win anything in the air. Needs the ball played to his chest Steiner style rather than his head. Otherwise, we have wasted £2m again. Subs: Kane: 4 Really bad. Gave the ball away a lot, missed a great chance to shoot on goal and is obviously not match fit. Lucky for him we have Kakay. This will be his last season with us for sure. Sold in the Jan window for undisclosed peanuts to Sunderland or some such. Hamalainen: 5 Not great. Took him time to get into the game. Nowhere near as good as Wallace. Nice tackles once he got going but control was a let down. Needs to be loaned out again to get games and develop. Gubbins: 6 Looks decent and robust. Masterson better watch out as Gubbins could come through. Manning: 5 Looked way off the pace. And actually looked worse in midfield than LB. Game passed him by. Still has a decent left foot though. Can thread passes through tight gaps, but it was all sideways. Bettache 6: Not as good as the last game almost got caught in possession a lot but recovered well. Showed why Cameron is so bad though. And tried hard though. Keep him in the squad he is good enough to play in the Champ now. Don't loan him out as we did with Furlong, Chair and Manning. There is no need he's good enough now. Shodipo 5: On the right where he should be, but never got into the game. Maybe a one-off. Couple more chances and if not, sell him or loan him. Alfa: 6 Looked decent and tried hard. Could be one for the future. Should loan him just till Jan and see what he can do. Oteh 4: Poor. Could not hold up the ball and wasted an easy chance. Just not good enough. Loan time again or if possible move on. He won't make it. Smyth: 6 Looked good. Went past a few players and made some nice crosses that should have been an assist had Oteh not fluffed it. Showed BoS and Shodipo how it should be done. Needs to be on the sub bench at least for the next game. We should not loan him out, that is a mistake.
