And its not just his goal ratio that's improving, its his all-round play for the team, with Palace fans saying he is now worth a starting place, given how the attacking 3 have gelled with the addition of Eze,
My point is, Dykes is likely a 1 in 3 striker as Benteke always has been, we just need a No.10 who can keep the ball moving / pass first time and a Winger who does likewise.
If we cant have both, we need at least one of the two, so other than a mobile CDM and selecting a formation that suits the fullbacks in our squad, dropping BOS would be my next priority as Adomah can offer more. |  | |  |

Not wishing to be contrary, but believe those two have been the most over rated players by our fan-base since Conor Washington and BFG.
Eze carried those two last season (he's even got Zaha smiling and Benteke scoring now!), since Eze left they have struggled to consistently impose themselves on games, with one being above average every other game (Chair) and the other being outstanding in two halves of football in last six or so games (BOS).
If we are relying on them to carry us this season, week in week out, based on performances I have seen to date, we will be relegated. |

Don't ever remember Washington or Polter being overrated on here - people (BURN THEM!) just wanted them to succeed because the desire and endeavour was clearly there.

Eze was obviously going to be missed as he is absolutely brilliant but for me the biggest miss has ben Manning, our delivery from out wide and set pieces has been atrocious this season and he'd have really helped with that. Opposition teams know we have limited threat from full back so can afford to defend narrower against us and block the space Chair wants to get into. |  | | |

Original post was in response to a post saying Chair and BOS are carrying the team, hence my point about a section of our support imho over-rating where these two are, by comparing to top or even higher level Championship players, hence comparison to Washington and Leistner who imho were playing a level above their capabilities, and got alot more slack from our fans than say Dykes.

Think the team play comment is probably fairer on Bright than Chair, but for sure both can (and will IMO) improve. I already think Chair is miles ahead of where he was a year ago. | |

Pundits and Palace fans alike are raving about how Eze has rejuvenated Benteke (2 goals in last few games, albeit against 10 man WBA, as opposed to 3 in 60 odd prior to Eze) and taken all the pressure off Zaha
Saying his give + go' play to Benteke around the box plays to his strengths etc - this is what Dykes needs - a No 10 who will pass, move and play-off / with him and a Winger who can cross early, not someone who does the hokey-kokey before passing the ball.
I appreciate we are on a totally different planet budget wise but Eze / Zaha / Benteke are similar types to Chair / BOS / Dykes and we need to work on this on the training ground.
Although when a players DNA is head-down or they have'nt got the natural ball control needed at this level it is difficult to coach - but I'd like to see them try! |
I totally agree. When you are playing one up front, you need to get the ball to him quickly or defenders will flood back and crowd him out.
It's great that players feel comfortable with the ball, having lots of possession and passing it around but it is also fine to play one touch football and pass the ball early if there is an opportunity to play someone in. Being able to either hold the ball and pass it around, or play it first time, is a powerful combination because the opposition have to be ready for either eventuality and can't be sure what will happen.

The reason we looked good or better on Saturday was because reading didn’t even try ! They sat back and stuck 10 men behind the ball for most of the game with a 5 ft 6 lone striker not getting a sniff .
I believe the reading tactics were defend and crowd the middle , double up on the flanks and eventually rangers will either hand us a goal or we will pick them off when they leave us enough space somewhere .
I’m no football manager but that’s pretty basic stuff Warbs should have reacted to . Wycombe will do the exact same and probably get the same outcome |  | | |
