Would people turn their noses up at 'Industrial' football if it delivered us points? Karl Robinson = Good style of football Gareth Ainsworth = Hoofball I've never really got my head around what it actually means... [Post edited 11 May 2022 8:01]

| What Does 'Good Football' Mean on 11:42 - May 11 by NorrisGreen | I go to matches in order throw beer in the air, leap about cuddling strangers and make disparaging remarks/gestures to away fans. I find that the best way to give these activities a veneer of acceptability is to WIN games via scoring more GOALS than the opposition. Taking the Michael out of away fans when we're losing 1-3 at home is very dispiriting for me. Given most of our fanbase perpetually points out that we have a small budget and shouldn't really have any expectations I think it's bleeding obvious we should be playing Neanderthal anti-football in order to scrap and kick our way up the league - it should be our basic starting point in all games; it's not optional. Who didnt enjoy our 1-0 play-off win against Derby? Who didnt enjoy beating CFC 1-0 in that JT racism game? Let's face it, we were awful in both games and barely created anything. Nobody gives a monkey's though do they? |
The thing is that’s two examples of it working. There will be plenty more examples of games where we’ve played crap and lost. Then what do you take home with you? I probably love watching quick direct passing football the most but also understand that you can’t play like that for 90 mins twice a week. It’s balance you need and brains. Balance and brains.

No team plays like that and goes up the league though do they? If we played that Chelsea game 100 times we'd lose 4-1 in 99 of them. When was the last neanderthal kick and rush team promoted? it doesn't work.

| What Does 'Good Football' Mean on 18:24 - May 11 with 1765 views | Match82 | Obviously tough to define. Closest I can get is Where possible passing the ball forwards, to people on your own team. No messing around with sideways and backwards passes in your own half, no hoofing it into the corners for people to chase. | | | |
| What Does 'Good Football' Mean on 19:06 - May 11 with 1741 views | distortR | FC IOM get a bit of stick for their'direct' style of play. They can play it through the zones, but have fast wingers and 2 x 6'4" centre forwards, so the preferred option is the long ball into space behind the fullbacks. And long throw-in's. 123 goals scored in 38 games, it's been entertaining enough. | | | |

This! Considering Warburton highlighted in his first interview how influenced he was by Sexton's methods and watching that gorgeous team, he should sit down with his players before he clears his desk and think long and hard how far he and they ended up from his supposed footballing aims. Mind you, there are people here who'll tell you trying to playing football like we were QPR back in the 1970s (pass and move, properly coached set pieces, fluid hard work - not rocket science, just for the record) is pie in the sky. It's often the same people who'd rather (i) we wrap players in cotton wool if the poor dears have to play more than one game a week, (ii) give up on cups in the interests of 'squad rotation', (iii) over-idealise diplomatic/urbane post-match manager interviews out of respect for players' egos (or dismiss them as meaningless), (iv) promote shithousery, tactical fouling and time-wasting (including Andy Sinton - even when it leads to conceding a goal as a result, go figure) and (v) think that when they started watching football post the 1990s was the start of the game getting 'better'. Clearly, though, I'm a nostalgic madman, so I should probably cancel myself like comic genius (sorry, reactionary nutter) John Cleese. [Post edited 11 May 2022 22:35]

Not for me , playing defensively and stifling the opposition is part of the game , but TBH I dont want to win by the sort of cheating we have seen from Bournemouth , Preston and the rest , throwing yourself on the floor at a pre arranged time, passing a hamstring off as concussion or trying to get an opponent sent off . Its like cheating at golf, you are just kidding yourself. Win fairly and you can look back on it clean .
| What Does 'Good Football' Mean on 20:18 - May 11 with 1662 views | themodfather | good football? it's all about winning, not the sport, not for fun, all about money and do all you can to achieve it. bournemouth just one dislikeable team who went down easy, got players booked for minor things, maybe had the oppo down to ten and win. went up, who cares? the league don't so cheats did prosper. for me, i ask can you take 30 awful games, dire but ponce a 1-0 win in those 30, lose the other 16 games 8-0, makes no odds you will go up. but if you can do it, with flowing free scoring football, few dramas and romp it easily, then whoopee! | | | |
| What Does 'Good Football' Mean on 13:10 - May 13 with 1493 views | ridethewave | Think everyone's talking about two different things. Wanting QPR to win or the best way for QPR to win, and what constitutes good football are very different. What would you rather sit and watch on tv as a neutral? It's fast-flowing, attacking football with plenty of chances created. As a spectator that's really what matters. Separately and on the point about QPR, not everyone will agree but I'd rather stay in the Championship playing exciting football than have to watch hoofball every week regardless of the results. It's just not entertaining is it? [Post edited 13 May 2022 13:11]

| What Does 'Good Football' Mean on 13:44 - May 13 with 1450 views | CLAREMAN1995 | I think right now this Spring is what good football means.Man City and Liverpool playing high stakes winner take all incredible standard . Putting aside the money ,once those teams cross over that line its relentless wave after wave . Watching world class player sprint back to recover the ball they lose is refreshing and the amount of action in the box amazing . I have rarely seen a player berate another for not passing or missing a tackle which comes from the manager IMO. QPR seemed to have resorted to those outbursts when it went belly up.I realize its sheer frustration but the chemistry suffers . If we can relive the magic of the way we played up until January this year it will be fine going forward | | | |
| What Does 'Good Football' Mean on 14:03 - May 13 with 1419 views | R_from_afar | For me, it's not just what we do with the ball, it's what we do without it. I want to see a team of players who do everything possible to win the ball back, who close down properly, who mark tight and who sprint to get back when necessary. I want to see 100% effort. With the ball, I want us to be able to pass the ball quickly and play through teams, but also to get in behind them and go long. Teams which can go both short and long are tough to defend against, they're unpredictable. I also like to see the early ball played. At times, taking more than one touch means the chance is gone. | |

| What Does 'Good Football' Mean on 14:35 - May 13 with 1357 views | BrazilNutR | Ideally a Ronaldinho type player in the team, with silky skills (i.e. Taraabt), someone that lifts your attention every time they get possession as they can make things happen and is a joy to watch. Fast, slick attacking play on the break. Able to pass it through the lines without hoofing or losing it every other pass. Some good solid challenges thrown in, with players showing commitment and determination every game for 90 minutes.. | | | |

| What Does 'Good Football' Mean on 07:48 - May 14 with 1227 views | Dorse | There a few things more glorious to behold than a centre back completely monstering the opposition. One of those 'So high you can't get over it, so low you can't get under it, so wide you can't get round it' performances dimly remembered from days of yore. The kind of performance where their forwards simply rage-quit and end up getting subbed. Lovely. Fill my fcuking plate. | |
