A series where confused Rangers fans call on resident refereeing expert PinnerPaul to explain the mysteries of the modern game.

First up - why was the Watford 'goal' offside?

I think from the original cross he was standing offside, he jumped for the ball but went over his head. Ref must have deemed that as offside because nothing else made it offside.

Brilliant title. This should be a permanent thread.

Watched It a couple of times, the lino explains to the Watford player why It was offside but for the life of me I can't see why It was 'chalked off'
Whilst on the subject I don't give a f uck either.

I'm actually really proud of that. I can't help it!

I'm 52, by the way!

That must be it.

In old money, he's off.
But he's not interfering with play really, at any stage. amd I thought that was no longer offside.

Had to look up the reference.

If he has gone for the ball and was offside at the time irrelevant if he made contact he is offside. So maybe the Lino, God bless him, flagged before the ball came out to their player for the shot. Or it could be that Stroud wanted to make mends for the Sunderland game. Highly unlikely so I’ll stick to the first theory.

This all day. He was off from the cross before the hit.

Next: Did Paal get away with a foul late on in our penalty area? Looked a tad naughty to me...

Can we go out yet?

I took it as if he wasn’t there jumping then maybe the defender isn’t distracted and gets a cleaner clearance

The big question from me is, was PinnerPaul known as SinnerSaul until he had a Damascus moment?

Better call Paal.

Loved today

Thought they’re 1st equaliser was a handball
Thought they’re second was a trip on our player
Didn’t understand the Lino flagging for their “3rd” but glad he did
We were lucky when they hit the bar when Sennie was out of the area 1st half
(Haven’t seen any replays as yet)

Chair and Willock were outstanding. Paal improved through the game

Shout out to NothernR who told me before KO we’d win

Second up how did Scott McTominay touch the ball 3 times with his hand in his own penalty area and still no penalty for Southampton .And yes apparantly VAR took a look .
If we got a decision in our favour with Stroud in charge then there is some magic happening under MB hope it continues

What ?!
In his preview he predicted 2-0 to Watford.
Is he giving us all a dodgy steer in an attempt to win his own prediction league

I'm not sure you can ever be in the middle of the area just outside the 6 yard box and not be interfering with play personally. In any situation.

Especially when you jump to try to head the ball.

Hello all, as explainef on another thread, technical issues mean I haven't seen a minute of footage. A general point first 'Interfering with play' is specifically defined in the LOTG, so you need to look up the definitions for some decisions to make any sort of sense at all. Normally a challenge for the ball or an attempt to play it classifies as interfering. As I say though no idea if those applied here until I get my ****** laptop to work!

In this case, I think that nails it.

Refereeing the game with out seeing it - I'll take that! A claim to fame that is that I have been asked in similar circumstances - in the days when ITV showed 'The Premiership and footage not available on the net, I was asked by my boss if something was handball before the show went out! He described where the ball had hit arm/shoulder
