I can see exactly what the Leeds supporters meant when they said that there is a potential end product there but that they are yet to see it. Every time he gets the ball he seems to be in control but after a neat bit of play it seems to be recycled. I wonder whether we will see him come to light for us.
Looks like we've found ourselves a brand new scapegoat. Great work.
Well, it was him or me, and it wasn't going to be me. Last time I started a match thread and we lost, I had to move house and adopt a new identity! I've been wearing this Groucho Marx disguise for 3 years!
'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

Every time one of Chair or Willock can't play, and some times when both of them can, plus every time Dykes can't play and sometimes when he can, Roberts is going to be starting for us. Lets get behind him, give him the support of his life next game and see how it goes. Theres a talent in there, lets see if we can support him and ease the pressure on him while he gets up to speed.
I think he's been very strange last few games actually, and my conclusion is he's probably not yet fit, didn't have a pre-season of any sorts recently, and hopefully another ten games down the line he'll get better.
Came off the bench against Hull, absolute free hit against a busted side winning 3-0, and spent his time out on the wing bitching and moaning about this pass or that pass and mostly digging Adomah out for something or other. Millwall missed an absolute sitter, strode onto another cut back a few minutes later and hit the worst shot I've ever seen, and kept doing that annoying thing where you get in position with the centre back but then don't make a challenge for the ball - smash into him ffs. Saturday he was anonymous.
I just want to see him go for it a bit. Smash into a few people. Run about a bit more. More presence, more challenges. Particularly with five subs there's no excuse really.
I've just come back from a week away with Mrs Holy and my bedtime reading was Dom Balls book 'From winning teams to broken dreams'. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was actually really well written and had a great storyline (I would recommend any very talented, youth footballers to read it). Anyway one thing that springs to mind about Roberts is he is in a very similar situation to Dom Ball when he was at Spurs. ie in the squad of a Prem club but struggling to get game time and consistently overlooked on match days. Ball had a few loans to lower league clubs to get game time and the most difficult thing he found was being dropped for older more established lower league players (especially after what he perceived to be a good performance). Roberts is trying to get into the starting line up against players who have never played at the highest level in England so it must really hurt his ego when he is playing a bit part compared to the others in the squad. I think personally he is losing motivation? He may be thinking that a permanent move to a Championship club (complete with pay cut) is inevitable but wont be easy based on his experience at QPR?

I think you're right. I think it is mainly lack of pre-season, lack of games and a little bit of a lack of confidence to get stuck in for fear of another injury. I met him behind the scenes at the Boro game before he was ready to play and he was genuinely happy to be here and very much looking forward to proving a point. There is no doubt that he is a talent and that if he applies it he could be a very very good player. I feel if he can get enough minutes under his belt and convert a few chances that he will have a big influence on this team.
You're right of course. But he had been easily disposessed a couple times before and just seemed to shrug and moan a bit, rather than look up for it and want to impose himself.
He did receive a nasty nibble when turning and it did look sore, and I saw him do the rotating hands sub symbol. But the physio never even came on and the bench ignored him. So I'm reading a lot into it, and of course could be totally wrong...but I just had this feeling at the time they wanted him to play on to prove to himself that he could.
Yes, fair enough, Dannyblue. He does seem to give up a bit easily. He has good feet and passing ability at times but needs to work harder when it's not going well for him.
I hope it happens as we will need him, especially if anyone is sold in January.
The lad has ability - that's clear to see (case for the defence = that fantastic goal v Charlton). I've also seen him link up really, really well with both Illy and Willy.
To me he looks the sort of player that should really excel at the R's and under Beale with how he wants the game played. It's just he looks a bit "most skillful player in the playground" type to me at the moment. He expects to be given the ball all the time and then expects to be able to do more stepovers than a riverdance routine and dribble for fun. He tends to disappear when tackles come in, doesn't seem to want to put in hard yards to win the ball back and it's as if it all seems a bit beneath him.
Could go either way and I really hope it's the positive way -- he's got what we lack up top in pace and a bit of directness. Here's hoping for the lad.
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal
