Glad I’m an old git 16:34 - Sep 21 with 5568 viewsstowmarketrange

My 6 year old grandson has just come home from school and put YouTube on our telly, and he sat there watching some bloke open packets of panini stickers. That’s 30 minutes of my life I won’t ever get back. Now we’re watching some other bloke playing fifa on the PS5.
Whatever happened to children’s imaginations if they prefer to watch this sh@t rather than actually doing it?

Unboxing has been a thing for years on YouTube, never understood it myself in the slightest.

Funnily enough I've always been quite good at mental arithmetic in calculating in multiples of 3 (no need to guess where that comes from...)

Nice to see you at the Swansea game, always good to put a face to a name.

The grass is always greener.

I can’t believe how lucky us old codgers are; somebody has just invented “hands free” shoes. Shoes you don’t need your hands for!

Watch it, sonny.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

The issue is with tech companies literally designing their apps using the same principles and technology as fruit machines. There's a massive dopamine inducing element which keeps you hooked on your phone.

Now if you had 20+ years of living without smartphones and the internet, you might be alright. But if your parents were like 'here's an iPad, darling, now f*ck off Oliver/Jack/Freddy/Jamie/Olivia/Calum' then you've got no chance. You're addicted to that shit and your childhood is fked.

Even if you aren't, all 'fun' for kids now is parent-sanctioned. Every parent I work with is like 'I took [kid] to football practice/ice skating/dance recital/whatever' every weekend.

When I was a kid it was more a case of you went outside with your mates and had a laugh. Boredom was also a thing but it led to a bit of creativity.

So between tech stealing hours/days/weeks/months and parents who basically keep you as a prisoner, it must be lame as shit being a bairn now.

I was in a restaurant and a kid was there during the meal watching footage of people playing the game Rocket League on his iPad. Teach your kid to socialise or be bored, don't put that shit in their face and expect them to not grow up as some proper fking chief.

ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH MARTI THE REDEEMER WHO STRENGTHENS ME.

It's an incredibly tough balance as a parent, added to which we're coming out of a period during the initial COVID lockdown where parents used some of those things out of need/desperation. That's hard to snap out of.

Our kids are safer physically today, but it's coming at the cost of less opportunity for mental development. Tough balance to strike. Only way I've found is to set a couple of rules I won't break regardless of how tough that makes it - no screens before lunchtime at the weekend being one of them, that way the kids are forced to engage in at least SOME entertainment which is creative and not device based.

Do any of you remember when slip-on shoes were introduced? My mum got me some when I was at middle school. They seemed like a great innovation, until I ended up hopping round to the house next door to our school to ask them for the shoe I had launched over their fence while playing footer at lunchtime

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Our youth love luxury. They have bad manners and despise authority. They show disrespect for their elders and love to chatter instead of exercise. Young people are now tyrants, not the servants of their household. They no longer rise when their elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up food and terrorize their teachers.

F uck me . Socrates took a whole f ucking paragraph to say what I said, succinctly, in two sentences.

Socrates is a tosser*

*(C) qprxtc (idiot savant).
