Anyone Got a Favourite Drive 23:47 - Aug 21 with 3710 viewsBoston

..as in, "I've Been Driving in my Car?"

For any reason, scenic, comfort, heading home, no speed cameras.

I drive a lot, loads of very pleasant memories, but three stick in my head...

1/ Memorial Drive in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from just north of Harvard down to the Science Museum. Drive it 4/5 times a week, whatever the season, it's lovely to look out over the river and downtown Boston.
2/California's route 1. No explanation required.
3/ Driving north from Dunoon in Scotland, heading up to Fort William, what a wonderful part of the country.

Poll: Thank God The Seaons Over.

Random one but love driving the lap around Regents Park - wide roads, never any traffic, lovely houses and scenery, and you’re right in the middle of London.

Can’t imagine we’ll be able to drive round it much longer

The winding coastal road between Sitges and Barcelona is pretty spectacular, great when you're in a campervan and dozens of angry Spaniards are stuck behind you

Amalfi coastline. Although technically I didn't actually drive ,we was in a bus. Great views though and dangerous cliff drops and hairpins.

Occasional providers of half decent House music.

Driving over the key bridge when it was there was always special.

Lots of great drives in the Scottish Highlands but perhaps my favourite is the drive in up the A82 from Glasgow. Wherever you are going to end up, this is always the exciting prelude to any trip there.

Did that on a 125cc scooter circa '98 with my then gf on the back. Hair-raising but fun!

I done the 'Blues Highway' Highway 61 twice,

The first time was stunning the second time was stunning.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Drove to Stranraer from London back in the late eighties to get a ferry to Larne . 9 and a half hours wit a stop or two . Some stunning scenery in Scotland .
The drive to the republic through Northern Ireland was slightly less enjoyable given the times we were in .

Rhayader to Devils Bridge via Cwmystwyth - through the Cambrian mountains. Often featured on Top Gear etc. Stunning views, little traffic, waterfalls and 'big hills' but don't tell anyone!

Used to do that (plus a bit more, including a nice gentle bit through Herefordshire) six times a year when my daughter was at Aberystwyth Uni. Quite miss it and vaguely thinking go doing it again just for the fun - like you say, not much traffic but really decent road surface all the way.
