Johnny Walker RIP on 16:55 - Dec 31 with 1177 views | ted_hendrix | I struggle to listen to the radio nowadays, just an opinion but the endless Inane waffle that you have to listen to between records Is hard work. Johnny Walker was different though, he had the skill set to be interesting when talking between records. He was like whispering Bob Harris but louder. RIP
| My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic. |

He got the bullet or resigned from the beeb back in the day for his preference of playing album tracks. He was a big Roxy fan . So any kind of music which touched or was influenced by that type of music.

Sounds like I would have liked him. I only really listened to John Peel. My all time favourite was Mary Costello on Radio London. She played some great, eclectic music. All sorts. I won quite a few albums on her quiz. Anyone know what she does now ? I think she was Elvis Costello's sister.
Johnnie Walker RIP on 17:19 - Dec 31 with 1019 views | plasmahoop | Its a shame, it was known he didn't have long to go, but still sad. My Dad used to listen to him in the 60s, and i used to like listening to him on drivetime on radio 2, and more recently on sounds of the 70s. Drivetime was probably about 20 years ago now. Back in his younger days he was a bit of a rebel, staying out to broadcast on the ship after it had been made illegal, but he was still charismatic in his later years
Johnnie Walker RIP on 19:26 - Dec 31 with 788 views | Pindarus | A great Motown fan. I thought he was the best of the Radio Caroline DJs in that exciting era. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Johnnie Walker RIP on 21:54 - Dec 31 with 565 views | Dorse | I knew Johnny a bit (and Tiggy). A real gentleman and just as lovely in real life as he was on air. He'll truly be missed. Rest easy.

I was listening under the bedclothes at 12 midnight on August 14th 1967 when he and Robbie Dale officially became "pirates". I preferred Radio London but they had shut down at 3:00 PM. Sad news.
