Personally would have started Kolli up front from the start today but Michael Frey put in a powerhouse performance.
Really enjoyed watching him play today.
Must have been a massive boost to slot one home after only four minutes and whenever the ball went in his direction, you felt he could hold off the opposition, hold up the play, retain possession and never be bullied off the ball.
Very strong in the air also.
Definitely today felt he reaffirmed his role as our number one centre forward.
Let's hope he is used well and is rotated when possible so that he doesn't become unavailable for a period again this season.
Obviously his limitations are that he has no pace but I feel Marti knows what game suits Frey and today we certainly enabled his best side. [Post edited 1 Jan 18:45]

His presence was essential against a side like Watford - he stopped our attack from being bullied out of the game - we have missed his physical presence since his injury when we play big defenders.
That said it shows our current weakness up front that he is probably the best we have. |  |

Yeah loved watching him beat up the Watford defenders - winning the free kick he ended up scoring from.
Definitely missed him when he went off, we seemed to drop deeper and Kolli struggled to make the ball stick (although I still don't think that is his natural game). |  |

It looked a very directed cutback to me from Morgan. The keeper got a hand to it as it was right at him, but I think the pace of the ball is what took it in. | |

Meanwhile Frey in the championship has 4 goals in 14 league games and were it not for his injury, would have had a few more which would have placed him amongst the average amount of goals scored by forwards/attacking midfielders to date in the league. Some of whom have played in as many as 25 games.

The first goal looks like something the team has been working on on the training ground so I doubt Morgan was just hoping for the best. Kieran does look up and survey his options before crossing so the pass was deliberate. However, I'd wager he was aiming towards the arriving cavalry rather than specifically picking out Frey. Definitely agree that Frey was the right choice for this match.Kolli would have been bullied out of this game.
I like having two such different forwards. At times in the past our attacking options have seemed rather predictable - e.g. when Illy and Willie every week did the same passing move and then cut in and shoot combo. Often brilliantly but still you could foresee it. But imagine setting up all week to bully the young fella and then find out you're facing Frey!
We're still getting Chair coming down the left but also Smyth down the right. And Morgan maurauding through the centre. Gives oppo coaches more of a headache. |  | | |
