Kone 22:49 - Nov 22 with 6546 viewsEN_Ranger

No doubt that he’s a really good player, have to remind myself of his age sometimes as he’s still young and discovering the Championship.

But…I don’t understand why he plays so deep, he’s not a 10 he’s a 9, get in the box!

Whether it’s the tactics or his game, it’s not where he should be playing and despite his great start with us, he’s been floating around in the wrong areas of the pitch for 2 months now.

Discuss!

Some of the criticism here by some fans for me is unbelievably harsh.

Kone would have scored as had an open goal but Burrell chose to be greedy and shot from an impossible angle. Also, wasnt Chairs follow up goal from a very powerful Kone shot.

Yes he hasnt scored for a few games but would suggest some of his runs are also creating space for Burrell also.

He did well for me, yesterday, we won 4 - 1 and fans will still nit pick on a player that eighteen months ago wasnt even playing top non league football and three days previous he made his Ivory Coast international debut in Africa.

He is sh*t, get rid, he doesnt try, and is totally out of form !!!
Seriously some of our fans need a rocket up their rectums !!!
We have two very decent centre forwards and hopefully an emerging one in Kolli. Goal threats up top, but lets all have something to be depressed about.

Kelman wasnt even considered in Charltons squad and has scored one goal, i believe this season.

Kone is deservedly in the team and is playing well.

I think what's more pressing is a need to get fans who are over-sensitive to other fans' criticism to have a word with themselves. For the umpteenth time, criticality is a function of fan love, passion, and perfectionism, not some dreary need to turn everything/ everyone to shite.

No one is talking about bombing out Kone (though one or two have reasonably suggested taking him out of the firing line while he's not, uh, firing) - just expressing concern as to how his downturn since his excellent start for us can be reversed through thinking about the team's set-up man-to-man coaching, or whatever else. The best teams have all players playing to their strengths. I think JS is slowly getting us there, but we still have one or two under-performers, and Kone is one of them right now. Hopefully, he can and will become our King Kone.

Kone is coming along nicely, just needs a goal to get him going again. I am a big fan of Burrell and have been since his debut against Preston. As already said we now have 2 decent strikers in Kone and Burrell with an option of Kolli as well. Even Frey as a late sub is a decent option for certain games. Sure Kone will soon start firing again.

But is Burrell perhaps scoring because we’ve got 2 strikers up there occupying defenders? Would he be scoring if he was playing as a one?

I’m pretty happy with how it’s going up there tbh.

We would still have two strikers up there if Kolli was playing in his place. I am in no way writing Kone off, he is young and has plenty of time on his side, but he looks low on confidence and finding opportunities difficult to come by.

Only JS will know whether it is in his interests to keep playing him, or give him a break and give Kolli a genuine opportunity of a few consecutive games.

We are in another 3 game week after all.

Numpty over reacted, big time. We all say it as we see it. I think Kone looks a great finisher, but is weak in other areas, no biggy, everyone has strengths and weaknesses.

I personally think a break would do him good. The other option is to keep playing him until he finds his form again. No issue either way. I would still like to see What Kolli can offer in his position.

Really no need for anyone to lose their shit over an opinion.

i saw this before Burnleyhoop protecting Stainrod - an alter ego for sure.

i agree with Clive - Burrell is doing so well as Kone up there with him and taking defenders away so runs can be made.

Kolli did well for 20 minutes but why change what is working...

Kone and Burrell will be the first two picks as strikers for me. And am certain, this will continue to be.

With hopefully Kolli improving also. We shall see.

I said the same thing when he went off yesterday. I thought Kone played really well and I’ve no doubt he’ll score double figures this season. I thought it was a very brave substitution bringing on Kolli and Morgan that early but they both did fine.

No - I was suggesting, if you could read a bit more carefully, some other happy-clapping posters give exaggerated responses to criticism of the team/players/management - almost as if they feel intimidated by it, which is why I made the link again between criticality and fan love, since love is a passion that demands standards. Anyway, feel free to join the Chef and have a laugh at my expense if it makes you happy.

Sensitivity is self-evidently a good thing, as the thread I put up on football and neurodiversity (the one that got taken down) tried to point people towards. I'd rather be called (too) sensitive (as I have been since I was a kid) than be thick-skinned, but perhaps that's just me and my silly spectrum. Anyway, never mind!

Nice piece this - good to keep him up in the public eye.
Slight concern now that he is a full international - with AFCON around the corner we could be losing him and a few others in January.
I thought he had a good game Saturday, good link up and made himself a nuisance. As mentioned by other posters - once he scores again I think he will click back into place.
Nice cameo from Kolli too, he gets my vote above Frey at present.

It's actually a bit worse than that this year, Afcon dates are Sun, 21 Dec 2025 – Sun, 18 Jan 2026.

Well maybe he can be the anti-Chair when he comes back from AFCON, and hit a rich vein of scoring form that fires us to promotion

Morocco are hosting, but Chair hasn't been picked for a while so while he's a possibility, unlikely to be picked.

Ilias hasn't been in the Morocco squad for two and a half years and they hardly ever played him before that, so hopefully he wont be wasting his time with them again.

Brilliant! Thanks for posting, Landshark. Took me into a deep dive on the Homeless World Cup, which, to my shame, I’d never heard of until Richard joined us. What a wonderful thing.
