Football - lost its sparkle? 10:08 - Nov 26 with 5327 viewsGloucs_R

Maybe its my age but I am really bored of football these days.

From a ST holder and going to most games home and away in my 20's, I am now an apathetic middle aged man and cant be arsed any more.

When it comes to England, I couldnt tell you who most of them are and have zero interest at all.

QPR just feels a bit like Ground Hog day. This season I dont even get upset if we lose. I cant even be bothered to go and watch Gloucester City either.

I would rather watch other sports.

Anyone else gone through this? I feel like I need some Loft For Words therapy!

Think a therapy group on LFW, might be a good idea for those of us of a certain disposition...and age 🤔

MOTD was like a religion to me once, I haven't watched It now for Years and Years, there was a discussion going on between Lineker and Shearer, It was mind blowingly boring I stood up switched the bloody television off and haven't watched MOTD since.

I've got a round trip of a good three hours plus to get to LR, I can't make It anymore though due to health reasons, not gonna go Into them though, my youngest Lad will always drive us but I'd be too unwell to sit In the ground for any length of time, I could walk out of the house for a few seconds then walk back In and all of a sudden I'd be gasping for breath, (I've. got Inhalers to deal with this).

I miss the craic at LR badly, always used to bump Into Lads from this MB and spend half time talking bollox.

When the vast amounts of money came Into the game, that's when football lost Its sparkle for me, I can't put Into words what I'm trying to say, I'm sure from memory I was sat In the away end at the madejski stadium and for 95 minutes we were subjected to two teams of footballers absolutely boring each other and us stupid fans to death, It was 0-0 at the end and as I was walking back to the car It started to rain and I remember thinking to myself WTFing hell am I doing?

I dunno what I think about watching England, one thing I do know England have a huge wealth of fantastically talented players, what a dream come true for whoever Manages them, talk about landing on your feet.

I'm one hell of a miserable bastard when QPR lose, no you don't get used to It.

I can't turn the clock back and start going again, having said all of that I can't wait for the game tonight so with that In mind No I don't think football has lost Its sparkle, but I do find the amount of money In football repulsive.

Stupid Pratt.

Eberechi Eze is the perfect tonic for those who grew up on 1970s entertaing football,

That lads even brought a smile to Mikel Arteta's sour boat,

We grew up being entertained and flair footballers like Bowles were known as Entertainers, not as CAMs or whatever,

Watch Eze run back the other night, back pass to the Keeper, gets a hospital return ball from the Keeper, is out of gas, so just plays a 30 yard no look chip over the press, made me smile, we want football like we grew up watching, it should be joyful.

Welcome to the club. Absolutely over it. It's like crack. It gets worse as you get older and have less tolerance towards it.

Poll: Do you think this current QPR team has got what is takes to go up this year?

Still love it. Still playing vets football at 61, just started playing walking football. Season ticket Holder in Ellerslie Road with my 2 sons, still love watching pretty much any game and chatting shit about football in general. The only real difference is that over time I’ve become (slightly) less miserable if we lose - 1 day funk rather than 2 or 3 days. With all it’s faults, still the beautiful game

Time to revive Danny Baker’s 1991 series ‘The Game’, featuring Sunday pub sides from the 4th Division of some obscure east London league? Maybe not.

A mate of mine got me watching this about 6 months ago.

All 6 episodes on youtube... bloody brilliant!

I have my moments, but I still feel incredibly excited about going to Loftus Rd, taking my seat (same one for 30 years or more) and watching us play - win lose or draw.

Also for me its not just the game - its pie and mash on Portobello before, Coffee at the Oporto on Golborne, the sheer awe of Trellick Tower, leisurely stroll on Portobello. It's engaging with my sons - less frequent visitors now as they have young children, walking up South Africa rd and standing outside the shops saying hello to faces old and new.

I took a new flame Saturday who has never been to a game before and she was absolutely smitten - sometimes I really think we take for granted this amazing atmosphere and community we have at Loftus Rd...

I understand the apathy that comes with the premier league, international football and the general cynicism that is now inherent in the game, but our little bit of west london pride and those butterflies in the stomach every game keep me going....

Got my love back for QPR and football in general in 2014 after not going to Loftus Road since 1986. Got a season ticket in 2015 and been going regularly ever since. Started playing walking football at age 56, 6 years ago after not playing since my mid 20s. Love it and the competitive nature now play for one of the top walking football clubs in Northamptonshire , and been top goalscorer twice in over 60s league in last 18 months. Watching football and still playing it albeit at a slower speed is still great, also great for banter and physical and mental health in general. Our club has around 130 walking football players, superb set up and playing on a 3G pitch is fantastic.

I'm hating getting older ... trying to stay as active as poss but there's so much stuff I cannot do these days.
Still love QPR and England, but the Prem is for the most part boring rubbish... However I'm loving Liverpools current implosion as one of my best mates is a Surrey Red :)

What I do miss is going to the football and being there, especially away games. Nothing like it.

Everyday in the US I’m wearing something rangers related. Currently adorning dryworld hoodie and a beanie hat.

I also miss hot cross buns.

I hate the people who run the game, I dislike a lot of the people/states who own clubs, ticket prices are often an absolute disgrace, I hate TV companies taking the pi ss with kick-off times and dates, I hate VAR, I hate the twa ts at the IFAB who seem to go out of their way to make football as difficult to officiate/understand as possible, I really dislike some of the ar seholes that I come across at games/on the way to games, and I really fu cking hate John Terry. Other than Fulham, I have no interest in the PL or European football, and I barely watch England qualifiers as there’s zero jeopardy these days. But I still absolutely love football.

My son and I do 40+ games a season, mainly watching Bristol City (his club), but also the odd Fulham game, Scottish games, random games to get a 92 tick, non-league football, and a game or two abroad. I’m going to watch my dad’s non-league team with him on Saturday. The football is often fairly average/poor, but I just love the day out, whether it’s meeting up with friends for home games, or having a day visiting another town/city. I think more than anything, seeing how much my son loves playing and watching football, and the friends he’s made doing both, has stopped me from falling out of love with the game.

Fulham FC: It's the taking part that counts
