I always liked Mick Harford in his pomp, gave Alan McDonald some of his toughest tests. Would have loved him playing for us. Ryan Woods the ginger centre midfielder at Brentford when they were getting good was another one [Post edited 4 Jan 1:32]

Glenn Hoddle...passing ability from the Gods, plus those shots and free-kicks. Kevin Keegan...so skilful for a shorter player and so intelligent on and off the ball. Peter Beardsley...like a mini-me of Keegan with the bonus of that gap in his front teeth. Harry Kane...we'll miss him when he's gone.

Beardsley, Waddle, and Gazza - I know easy choices, but I never saw them play badly against us. Steve Nicol, Dennis Irwin - solid types, who always stood out among their more famous teammates. Micky Hazard and Ray Houghton - two blokes who were very close to joining the Rangers. Imagine the latter in 'that' game.

I think it's players you rated, not the best ever !

Alan Shearer - I love watching good strikers, more for what they're doing without the ball than with it and he was one of the best - a complete #9 Luis Suarez - odious little oik but as above, must have been a nightmare to play against. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

True, but for me it extends to great players who always did it. We've seen plenty blessed with skills who might be inconsistent or who clearly looked like the PE teacher didn't accept their note from mum, and made them play. Being great is one thing, doing it week in, week out regardless of the oppo, another.

Not the last time. 1 Jan 1974 . QPR beat Man Utd 3-0 on a bog and United got relegated that season. I dont think Best ever played for them again.

True but I'm thinking before that. For example, the first time we played ManU in the 68/69 season they beat us 3-1 at LR with Best scoring twice. He was Utd's leading scorer that season with 19. The attendance at that game was 31,138. [Post edited 4 Jan 9:16]

He took a load of stick from the crowd as you might expect being ex Chelsea, but he rode above it all and gave a masterclass in how to play the sweeper role in a flat back 4. I had to begrudgingly respect his performance in a 1-0 win for them (Solanki scored to add t0 the Chelsea connection)

Clinton F***ing Morrison - must have scored half his career goals against us. Another big awkward lump who always seemed to beat us…Dele Adebola.

My dad and I even clapped a goal he scored against us because it was such a brilliant piece of skill. The bloke behind us almost killed us.

I remember applauding opponents goals, if outstanding etc, used to be reasonably common, and like clapping opposition keepers seems to have reduced or stopped mostly.

Ross barkley when we played Everton away in the fa cup he absolutely destroyed us in the middle of the park that day. [Post edited 4 Jan 10:49]
