I've started a new thread for the 2026 season, and I've started it now because the T20 World Cup starts a week today. (And in fact 2 months and we will be chatting county cricket red ball)
In a group with Italy, Nepal and Scotland and a pretty solid squad I expect that we will progress beyond the group stage. After that who knows and will depend on fitness. Curran and Salt played very well in the first game warm up game v Sri Lanka but tougher tests are ahead. Anyway, here is the squad for England (albeit still provisional).
Harry Brook (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Josh Tongue, Luke Wood.
Be relying on Archer to stay fit (as per usual) - But hope that Brook finally stands up as captain, and Banton and Jacks perfom like we know they can at county level. If all that clicks should be a good watch. |  | | |  |

We not spoken much on here about England Cricket and the players getting pie eyed on regular basis.
Now what is it, I believe six different incidents involving eight of the centrally contracted players being drunk and disorderly after amd between games in the last nine months.
Its almost a third of all those blessed to be with an England connection.
Most sports that require extreme agility and fitness levels, players simply do not have the option of having nights wherr they get absolutely blotto. They on mega wages and everyone is a potential paparazzi now. I dont agree with that but its simply the nature of how things are now, with phones with cameras and the existence of social media.
The England cricket team now if players that are England men currently and if they are seen on a night out, half the local Joe's are going to attempt to confront them and stir up trouble and then get their video footage.
Apparently Cricketers have a drinking culture still. Its clealry not the case in football so much now at all.
But whatever it is, these players are falling hook, line and sinker into the honey pot traps every single time. [Post edited 27 Aug 23:50]

I don't understand it; cricket is a pretty short career and if you have worked your way up right to international level surely you can put your late night club visit on hold for a few years. Or just go for a quiet pint and chat somewhere if you are that much in need. Most of them are nearer 30 than 20 so it doesn't make any sense.
Never been a relentless critic of Key but as the MD of English cricket surely the buck has to stop with him. He can't get the curfew right, but if he did his job properly then it is the culture of the environment that would render curfews unnecessary.
I read that when Strauss was MD and Duckett poured the beer over Anderson's head he flew to Oz and made it all very clear.....problem solved. |  | | |

Centrally contracted players will be on a decent wedge. They are likely to be identifiable, which is an invitation to every numpty with a smart phone. However they are part of group of young men and celebrating with mates is hardly unique to cricketers. |  |

The Leicester points deduction might be harsh, but the umpires give a pitch report. Wickets alone aren't the only factor, there was 20 wickets on day 1 between Surrey and Glamorgan, but then 1000 runs between them in the second innings | | | |

Nah, it was very dark and you can't have a league system played over months like this where the umpires just play on for the good of the game in crucial matches at the end. If it was in April and Kent were close to winning, once the reading hit that level they have to take them off.
It's fine if you have a common sense rule, but you don't.

But not many teams win without getting max bowling points, so if we win that shouldn't be too much of an issue. Then if Northants get max batting points, we only need 1 point (250 in the first innings) as if we finish level on points, we get promoted for having more wins. I think! | | | |

If it goes the distance then there could be a competitive game; Middlesex bowling has been decent all season, but the batting has been the problem, as clearly shown by where the bonus points have come. Even worse, now Du Plooy has gone.
