We had had one of these in bright yellow as our first “proper car” aka The Yellow Peril
Always stank of petrol and car sickness guaranteed. Eventually broke down one too many times and got binned off for an early VW Passat which caught fire on the way to the Isle of Wight
You don’t really get properly sh-t cars anymore do you? Much less fun

My dad bought me a 20-year-old white Renault 12 as my first car. The old boy who’d bought it new had recently died, he left behind three packets of Spangles and a box of sixpences in the glove compartment and the original polythene on the back seat and inside doors, I doubt he’d ever given anyone a lift. After about five years I gave it to my brother who was living in Manchester, and he found someone willing to give him £50 for it!

I wouldn't say cars mentioned were sh-t, but certainly modern cars are more reliable and safer. But…why do they design them so ugly ? Compare the cars nowadays to say, a Triumph TR5 or Citroen Pallas DS.

Aesthetic beauty has gone out the window sadly - all about functionality
I mean look at all the boxy Minecraft apartment blocks going up everywhere. No creativity whatsoever.

Who knows but...do you still have the red flag?
Indeed. And of course the Vanguard didn't have a synchromesh gearbox, so you had to double-declutch for every gear change. On a similar note, I took a short cut through Acton earlier ( not for the fainthearted ), and espied a garage in Bollo Lane called smallbills garage. I phoned when I got home but small Bill wasn't there.

Dad had a couple of reliant robin 3 wheelers, he had driven scooters before I think, and I believe you didn't need a car licence for a 3 wheeler back in the day if my memory is correct? The second one rolled over on the way to Falmouth to see my gran when I was about 12 and I was in the passenger seat. I can remember coming to a standstill and we were all upside down, I was slightly injured, and I was scared to get in a car for a long time. He never got another 3 wheeler. At some stage after that he had a peugeot estate car - one of my brothers painted go faster stripes on in an attempt to make it look sporty if that was at all possible.
Mate of mine’s Dad bought a brand new Reliant Robin & because my mate had a motorbike licence he was allowed to drive it..first time out for an afternoon’s swimming at a local outdoor pool, stopped off at the local fish n chips shop on the way home with 3 of us in the back & he took a right turn too quick & it went over on one side, bounced up & went over on the other side totally writing it off as we staggered out of the back covered in chips, scraps & tomato sauce but totally uninjured somehow..his Dad wasn’t best pleased to say the least..😂

My dad didn't drive but I most certainly had the shittest car of all time.
A Talbot Samba. An absolute lemon!
I bought it off some c*nt in 1995 for £300. It was a Y reg. 1983. I got it home and a few days later I was going to ask out this girl from work, Mandy, but she lived in Beckingham which back then might as well have been Birmingham to me.
So, I thought I'd suss out how far it was to see if the potential relationship was going to be worth the journey. I'm driving back from there when my gearstick gets stuck in third. I have to drive all the way home with this fking lemon acting like it's been kicked in the nuts.
Every set of lights I'm trying to get it out of third. No dice.
I get it home and, unbelievably, right away it shifts... into neutral. Completely f**ked. I found a local guy who knew these cars really well and paid another £300 to get it fixed. That's because the gearbox and the engine were one complete part. So it took a whole new engine.
Over the next couple of years I had some good times with that car. Notably I drove my brother and his two mates to our game at Reading. 1-0 down at half time and I'm pissed off. QPR playing shite. Long journey home. And I'd established that the car absolutely could not go over 50mph with four adults in it. So I'm just so f**ked off. But then Sheron and Spencer made it 2-1 and all was right with the world.
The car eventually had an issue where it'd start 50% of the time. If it didn't you'd have to whack the starter with a spanner.
The night I split up with Mandy (a couple of years later) I drove her home and parked across the road in a side street. An odd place to park but I knew that I'd not want to leave the scene like a f**king chump. The side street was on a hill you see. So if the car wouldn't start, I'd at least be able to handbrake release and roll out of there.
It started to be fair. And then a couple of weeks later I paid someone to take that fking lemon away for good.
Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

Grandad had an old school Vauxhall Cavalier (buying it in the first place the only Cavalier thing about it) which you had to park in gear because the handbrake was basically a plastic stick on the end of a piece of string attached to nothing at all.
My dad took it out one day, parked it outside this bloke's house, goes walking up to the front door and on the other side there's a painter and decorator varnishing the inside of the front door. Dad rings the bell, painter's head pops up in the window, eyes widen, and he just points behind him.
Grandad's Vauxhall Cavalier had set off at rather the pace, down the hill, through somebody 's front wall and into the general vicinity of their living room bay window.

The Daily Mirror once had a list of the ten worst cars of all time.
Dad had owned 8 of them.
Core childhood memory was being on holiday in Cornwall in a bloody LADA and being in Bodmin and dad trying to shit us up in the afternoon with the Beast of Bodmin.
Cue dusk and we're going back to the caravan site and the crapped out thing starts breaking down. Dad is freaking whilst me and my siblings are in the back seats crying and screaming "THE BEAST IS GONNA EAT US!!!!!!!!!!!!"
