Blatter showed Infantino what could be achieved with a more methodical approach.
The problem is the whole stinking edifice of FIFA is rotten. Jack Warner last year finally escaped extradition to the US to face corruption charges. The World Cups in Russia, Qatar and Saudi were/are all as bent as fck. In the long run, a new President isn't going to help much. It needs to be scrapped and a new world football authority founded. That’s all they did though…. renamed/rebranded. That can add as many tournaments etc as they like as long as it’s all self controlled, even if it does bring in extra money.
This is different in that they were trying to sell a big chunk of something (that doesn’t belong to them) to investors which effectively means those investors want returns. So, tournaments etc become a necessity and all the players are flogged to death (as they will probably be contractually obliged ‘cos they didn’t read the small print and their agent just waived over it) in order to do that rather than it being ‘for the love of the game’ and a non-profit venture that is there for everyone to enjoy (copyright last century) which is what FIFA is meant to be. | | | |
