Sherring doesn’t look match fit yet. Would play Moss with EEL.
However for those clamouring for more additions, we have Wilson and Maguire to come back too. At some point we have to go with what we have.
The only defensive addition that can be justified is a left back with Beckwith being injured. Even then, it’s not like the NL where they can go back once he’s fit again. Do we get one until January or is is that budget better used elsewhere?
Would rather a centre forward now and despite all the injuries, I think our squad is pretty good and we have to learn to work with what we have.
(On a contradictory side note, with the Jenkins injury and the knock that Pettit took would make me want to try and sign Edwards. Especially as we know he can do a job at full back too now) |
Edwards defensive performance against Halifax last week was terrible. It was pretty obvious that he isn't a full back. He's been training with us pre-season so the manager will have seen enough to know whether to offer him a deal or not. I look at Edwards and i don't see him displacing any of our midfield players. I don't understand the clamour from some to sign him, maybe his game hasn't progressed over the last couple of years and i dont think going to Stockport last season did him any favours. At 19 yrs of age he should have played a lot more games than he currently has .
We have a injury crisis, the manager doesn't have to learn to work with what we have. If his budget allows he has to do what's right for the club and he still hasn't completed his recruitment. It sounds like there could be another few signings in the pipeline listening to Simon Gauge's interview on Saturday. My take from the Tranmere game is that we need some steel in the team, we lose too many challenges and are easily knocked off the ball. Too nice. [Post edited 3 Aug 11:18]

Agree with that, the communication from the club hasn't been great. The arrangement for him to train with Stockport was also a strange one, i suspect his career would have blossomed had he stayed and played last season. It reminded me of when Ethan Brierley was sent to train with Sheffield United, at a time when we desperately needed him to be playing for us. | | | |

Yes, he grew into the game after a shaky start. He was absolutely dead on his feet near the end though, nothing another two or three weeks of hard training shouldn't sort out. I have a feeling we will end up with a good squad of players but it could be two or three months before Watson can put out what he feels is his strongest team. The intensity in training could be what's contributing to this raft of injuries. | | | |
