This is how a lot of Saints fans seem to be referring to Ward-Prowse.
Basically always passing the ball sideways or backwards.
Personally think this is harsh.
In the later years of his Saints career, he was playing in poor sides in the Prem.
Maybe the pass in between the lines to an attacking midfielder or to a striker just wasn’t on due to their lack of intelligent movement.
Let’s face it, he had Mara up front in his last season at Saints, and I moved more in the stand than Sekou did on the pitch.
It was only 5 years ago that Saints fans were up in arms that he wasn’t in the Euros squad for the Covid Euros in 2021.
Fair enough, Southgate picked Kalvin Phillips, Declan Rice and Bellingham. Difficult to argue with that now.
But it wasn’t just because of his set-pieces that we wanted him in the squad. He was all-action, and a leader. Not just passing the ball backwards all the time.
He won’t be at that level now, but he has played pretty much his whole career in the Prem, and if we were looking at signing a different player with his number of Prem appearances, we would all be thinking “wow”.
Depending on how much West Ham may try and fleece out of us, I am in favour.

As far as i'm aware Bobby Stokes wasn't a pompey season ticket holder who called their fa cup win the best day of his life, was a mascot for them, and counted andy awford as his favourite player.
I really don't understand why people seem to want to erase this because it doesn't fit the narrative, he's a skate c*nt, he was born there and supported them, and held a season ticket.

Could work: He’s lost pace (never had much anyway). He should’ve been a No 10 early in his career but now needs to stop trying to be a box-to-box midfielder and sit deep. Those of us of a certain vintage will remember that Lawrie McMenemy did that with Jimmy Case in the 80’s and saved his career. He just sat in front of the CB’s and sprayed passes all over the pitch - it was quite something to see at times. With our wingers and DM upfront that could work well. |

The complaints about sideways passing don't make sense to me. He will play the way the manager asks. He's versatile. We've seen him play well as a 10 and make progressive passes.
But the thing I wonder about is the physicality, particularly pace. He'd probably be the slowest central midfielder in the Championship, and in the formation we play he'd need to cover a lot of ground. We play 2 specialist wingers which means the 2 central midfielders have a lot of space to cover and there can be a lot of empty space there when the opposition break on us. JWP is never in a million years going to be able to get back to cover.
Also, for years we've had too many small, lightweight "footballers" and not enough muscle (Dobbin looks like another chapter in that story). I agree with what Nick said earlier in the week that we need more physicality in midfield and JWP won't provide it. | | | |

Being reported as under one million. He was good under Ralph H, scored quite a few goals and got some assists. Could he take our penalties, corners and some winning free kicks?
