I agree team did well considering how poor Kone was.
Kone is seriously unfit and can't run around much. He needs to be dropped until he is fit. It is embarrassing how unfit he is.

Boro are presently one of the best three sides in the league. Unlike the four we played previously they look comfortable on the ball. They use the dark arts well, they defend from the front backwards, they are a very difficult team to play against.
They carved us open down the middle previously, none of that today, Edwards and Vale were good as a central two. Smyths block tackle could have seen the ball end up anywhere, somehow it stayed at the fellas feet. Vale shot desperately unlucky, Smyths shot, keeper made the save but it could have easily flown in the net off his knee instead of a corner. Burrell run and shot, another day could have stopped rolling and he’d have had an open goal. Just one of those days.
I’d like to see Poku try to get behind defences more often, think our wing play in general is a bit predictable, but we are improving a lot.
We’re not going to go up automatically, but we are good enough for top eight. Need to keep our heads and win the winnable games. |  | | |

You’re right about the dark arts Steve, Lots of clever holding out of the sight of the ref especially when we were out running at them in the second half and the deliberate handball that the crowd all pointed out to the ref from one of their players which was again sneakily hidden out of his sight, And those terrible ‘injuries’ that somehow cropped up every time we were in the ascendancy but didn’t require them to be subbed and although seemed to take millennia to resolve somehow only led to six minutes extra time.
Talking of the ref, how weird that the ref has got in the way twice in our last two matches when we were on a promising attack. That must be an unusual occurrence surely?
Oh and the fuss pot fourth official trying to drag Stephan back from talking to Saito while there was an interminable treatment for one of the Middlesbrough players. We gave him some stick from the Paddocks and he slunk off… |  | | |

More evidence for my theory referees actually love a bit of time-wasting and the chance for a breather, especially with the heat. They’ve brought in this performative counting down time but it’s totally arbitrary when it begins or if they bother at all. Turned his back on the goalkeeper more than once and just left him to it. | | | |

I watched on a stream and you often don't see the off the ball stuff on there, but some of it was so blatant that you would have to be blind not to see it. Ref just ignored it as well as playing along with their time wasting. |  |

Ref was very poor. Usually when a ref gets in a teams way it’s just unfortunate but his positioning was truly woeful.
Team all played well, Kone the exception but he needs our support not people slagging him of as I heard today.
I’m disappointed but not unhappy. Boro played well and looked like a team who’d spent many millions but still needed to play the dark arts to get anything. We deserved more. | | | |

Gutted we didn't get a deserved point but we've been miles behind this lot the last few years so it was nice to give them a game .
We seem to have a proper squad and although it's frustrating changing the team every game I think after a few weeks you will see us having a settled side that will challenge the top 10

I actually think there is a much deeper issue with Kone and I don't think his knee is right at all. He was carrying that injury last season and was driven into the ground. He's broken down several times in pre-season and I thunk it's more about that knee still not being right and he's immobile because of it. I think they need to get him to a specialist because I don't think it is a lack of fitness or anything like that, I just don't think he can move and obviously if you have that kind of injury, you're fatigued and knackered all the time. So I thunk they need to look at what's going on with that knee. |  |

Begs the question why are Ben Williams and Co deeming him fit to start . The root of all this debate on selection is that players are still recovering from and being protected from last seasons injuries signings excepted) despite having a full summer and pre season to get right Having a deeper squad is just masking their failings IMO |  | | |
