Dominated the game in Midfield with lots of pretty passes without going anywhere as we didn’t seem to be able to make that killer pass and I not sure if that was due to lack of movement.
Kamara was different class and seemed to work well with Madsen.
Lots of positives as we look to have a bit of strength in depth, pretty much controlled the game, but a few negatives as the injuries are starting to mount up.
Adamson did ok, but does not bomb on and cuts back which Mebengue did not do as he went forward and put 3 good balls in.
Maybe being a bit harsh Obikwu looked a little lost.
But in general 1st signs are we are better than last year.

Went to game first thing to say is Charlton might as well be the moon in terms of getting there but enough of my travel moaning.
Dont expect us to win every game. Thought there were lots of positives. Midfield was great Adamson did ok. Clearly worried about being out of position therefore reluctant to push on when he should have but good showing from a young player. Burrell harried well and becoming our best player but we need to manage his minutes as he cant do that level of work every game.
Agree with your point i though Charlton did what they do wel. Big lumps, defending in numbers and then trying for a quick break or a set piece. On balance think a draw isnt a bad result. We couldnt break them down and not for want of trying. Also just watched Nathan Jones banging on about the off side goal. He is an arse. It close but it is clearly off side. |  | | |

I was in the away end with a Charlton mate just behind jones. I swear that bloke has some serious issues.
When Jimmy Dunne went off whatever he felt he knew straightaway. They walked in down the touchline and took him into the dressing room but he came back out after about 10 minutes in a tracksuit limping slightly but looking slightly less downcast.
Our end – the away fans – were very subdued for about 10 minutes after Jimmy went off and as I was relatively close to the defenders it was noticeable that Ronnie Edwards really stepped up in terms of directing the team at that point.
Charlton fans were overall quite depressed at how much better than them we were. |  | | |

We needed Kolli. I don’t know what the situation is and whether it’s simply that the player refused to go out on loan - which he has a right to do - but this needs to be sorted out. The managers job is to manage his squad and select the best team for the occasion. “ Difficult players” ( Stan was a “ difficult “ player, so was Taraabt ) are part of the mix. Is it JS effing ego? We should have won the game. We passed the ball to death without creating much in the final third. Charlton posed few problems, so I look on it as being two points dropped by ourselves.
Plus, it was a London derby and we have very little idea of what it takes to win one of those. |  | | |

Plus points for me were we controlled the game, kept another clean sheet, Glen Kamara was brilliant and i thought Madsen was showing signs of life again which was encouraging and Mbengue made a big impact from the bench. It was also excellent we got to see yet another Nathan Jones meltdown over the disallowed goal (which probably was onside). One of the post match interviews I've seen of him just describing his feelings on it with a variety of sighs/noises and no words is pretty funny.
Negatives were obviously the injuries to Lamptey/Dunne and the sudden disappearance Poku and Saito last night. The lack of cutting edge to find the final ball to open up that very well organised Charlton defence and when we eventually did find an opening Smyth couldn't take advantage unfortunately. We also looked vulnerable on the counter, i thought Tyreece Campbell looked very dangerous and impressive throughout the game with his pace and directness. Unlucky to have his goal chalked off from the replays I saw. It was very tight though. Also yet another match where we have more possession and no win.
I don't know really what else to say about the injuries anymore. Either we need to sign players who aren't as good, but more resilient, or we need to sack Williams and try and get someone else to get more mins out of these players because its killing us every season. I have some sympathy for Stephan having to come out and answer questions on it every week when he's not really the one solely in charge of this area. He must be just as frustrated as us about it because we're playing well. It seems to be a big problem across the league though, Charlton apparently had 8 or 9 out yesterday and other clubs have full treatment rooms already and we're only 6 games in! At least we had two good replacements for Lamptey and Jimmy, but again, we're one or two injuries away from either playing people out of position or dipping into the kids again, which in fact we're now already having to do with Scarlett coming on last night. Silver lining there is at least we might not have Mr Q on as many shirts.

Agree with others about Kolli. There are a lot of games where I think Lloyd offers more (chasing, winning headers etc.), but in a game like yesterday where we were dominating and needed that bit of skill, he would've been absolutely perfect.
Pleased about the performance but a little disappointed in the result. There are always going to be games like this in a season though, and I'd rather have been a QPR fan than a Charlton fan last night! | | | |

This was the first game that I've been really concerned about our finishing & lack of chances created.
I thought that we brought Scarlett & Obikwu on as a panic move & neither looked ready. Maybe Mbengue playing further forward & replacing Lloyd would have given us more forward movement & the ability to press. I've no idea what other changes could/would have given us a better chance of scoring though.
Substitutes last night were a conundrum with the lack of attacking options (we brought on the only two) & I'm sure the team selection on Saturday will be interesting! | | | |

None of our forwards have particularly good movement, so you need to find other ways to create openings. With Burrell and Lloyd that means giving them early ball so they can stretch their legs, if you delay it gives the defending team time to retreat and drown them out. We had too much sideways passing from the midfield last night, we needed to move it forwards quicker - I'm absolutely not talking about humping long balls downfield - but playing those guys in before Charlton got back into their low block. Once they'd retreated we lacked both the movement to break them open and the physicality to win headers. I have a feeling that's what Stephan is getting at when he talks about us being braver with the ball.
That all said, we've had a good start to the season, which we absolutely needed, so we shouldn't complaint too much. | | | |

One thing we 100% know about Kolli is that he will take a shot. Sometimes that will fly into the Loft but often it will be unstoppable, like against Sheffield Wednesday. Last night was crying out for someone to take a ******* shot, rather than pass, pass, pass around the edge of their box. Buy a ticket. Dip your wick.
I found last night incredibly frustrating - yes, we played okay but they really were there for the taking. Yes, we have improved but Stephan must now find a way of winning games when we are so dominant. With that improvement, we will now have more games with more possession and we must find a way of winning them. | | | |

I feel as if there isn't much point complaining about the lack of dynamic movement up front or Smyth (as everyone on X is) or any player's shortcomings on the pitch. They at least are on the pitch.
The players that would've have won that, either as starters or subs, are:
Chair, Poku, Saito, Kone, Dembele, maybe Kolli. But Kolli was behind us in the stand and the others are down and out. We lacked that little bit of surprising magic they are specifically employed to deliver.
Lamptey was so good until he sat down. Cirkin, fantastic, almost a midfielder. Imagine them both as either full back? That's something I suspect we will just have to imagine for quite a while. Maybe will happen at business end of season.
Still, as long as Charles, Edwards, Madsen, JCS, Kamara - especially Kamara - Cirkin and Burrell make it alive to the international break we are still better than season and I will still believe.

Deserved the win, only criticism, would of liked JS to have stuck Obikwu upfront with Burrell on the wing for the final 10, he looked lost on the left. Ronnie looks so strong this season, stepped up when given the captains armband. | |

If we sell him, we sell him. If we loan him, so be it.
But we're running out of players, we're bringing on 16-year-olds and players who've never appeared at the level, all while running our only effective fit centre forward who is coming back from a hamstring injury into the ground before our eyes.
So, yeah, we need him. If we'd sold him and replaced him in the window we wouldn't need him. We did not do that.
We need all available players. We are extremely light and toothless in the front line. Yet he's a player who has scored valuable Championship goals, often from nothing, sitting with us in the away end.

Not long ago on here we were gushing over how well run Millwall are. They currently have a huge injury list. Jones at Charlton also moaning about the ridiculous schedule, I think they were missing 8 or so.
Obviously we should be doing everything we can to minimise the risk, but we're hardly alone here. | | | |
