It's the pricing. Swansea was a category C game and 27k for a Tuesday evening, when Swansea only brought 800 was decent. Category B for Bristol and people think twice or chose the Swansea game instead as it was cheaper. West Ham in the cup showed that people arn't stupid. They know what's fair and what isn't.
As for Pompey, most of the tickets left are the £55 tickets in the block next in the away fans in the Kingsland. It"s now.on sale to the least loyal fans, just people who have attended one game in the last 5 years, so.could be a few tourists.who will pay it. Unfortunately, I know a few (Saints mad) who can't afford £55 or £40 it was behind the goal for their family of 4 amd have opted to watch on TV. Exactly mate and that's the point isn't it. Some people can't afford £40, £50 a ticket and then again after a few days, especially for a family of 4 or more. But Pompey has sold out with some tickets at £55. A proportion of passsionate Saints fans, who can't afford that, won't be there and will be replaced by day trippers in certain areas. The club sells.out, or nearly sells out, that's why they charge those prices, same in the PL charging Saints fans £80 for the top 6. They sell to.tourists, but it doesn't make it right. Maybe quite a few on here think £55 is nothing and is okay for all of our passionate fans who desperately want to go, but can't afford it, oh well!
The point is, charge cheaper prices and you get the most loyal, most passionate fans at every game with sell outs. Charge higher prices, and quite a few tourists or day trippers will buy the tickets, and near sell.outs but the club get their money... [Post edited 12 Sep 12:30]

Sadly I do count tickets sold, is a very easy thing to do, in an effort to help other supporters to warn them of possible sell outs, especially for away games.

There was an empty area on the Kingsland side of the away section, so I'd say they failed to sell about 250 seats. The home areas I could see looked full except for a few empty seats in the Chapel.

Regarding Pompey bullsh!t, one of the funniest examples I saw was before the play-off final with Leeds, when Leeds fans were trying to pretend they'd bought seats in the Saints end, and a Pompey fan added, "Yes, Pompey have bought loads of seats there too." [Post edited 13 Sep 11:10]

Lot's of angry young men saying come on, pointing to outside and doing throat slitting gestures
All rather amusing, I stood at the top of the stairs between blocks 19 and 20 pointing and laughing at them which seemed to aggravate a couple of them even more
Saw a couple of water bottles thrown but that was about it
Wrong-uns like Pat in block 20 would have had a better view, but he'd calmed down by the time we had a chat as we were walking down the stairs!! | |

We were in block 20 and it did get quite lively. City fans were extremely loud for 40 minutes until the goal came, after that they quietened down. They had to endure a lot of Saints bating them for the rest of the game. By the time the 4th goal went in they were like rabid beasts, trying to climb the barriers and getting pushed back by stewards. Saints lads giving the the 'come on'. Water bottles being exchanged and then they sloped off.
All quite amusing, but at least most of them stayed to the end unlike Millwall. | |

My experience of their fans at St Marys and at a QPR game I went to with a mate is them being proper bellends

No you needed to have been to one game in the last 5 years, no membership needed to shift those £55 tickets. As soon as Saints removed the need to be a member and need to have been to a game this season, the tickets started to shift. Same restrictions for when we played Liverpool and Arsenal and unfortunately tourists then get in. I don't think any Pompey would get in or would want to be in with us, but there might some people in the £55 seats who very rarely go, and fancied watching a big game, as those £55 tickets in particular didn't get sold until the very final few days when they loosened the restrictions.
The 30 is plenty campaign came about in the PL because yes games sold out at 50 or 60 quid a ticket, but the most loyal fans or local fans couldn't afford to go. Selling games out doesn't mean the pricing is right, only from a business sense. You want your most loyal and passionate fans at games, not tourists who will buy the most expensive tickets.
