So, six games in 13:34 - Sep 10 with 8739 views

At the start of the season I felt we needed 15 points from the kind first eight games to think we might be a serious contender for top 8. We're still on track for that, but it wouldn't be a surprise if we fall short with one point from the next two.

Obviously we've made some promising signings and are playing better football, but we've failed to score in three games and the familiar problem of not winning games we dominate is still a thing. We've been beaten by the only decent team we've faced - the other five will all be comfortably bottom half in May. And the injuries are already mounting up.

So, a bit better, some cause for optimism, but I'll need some persuading we're capable of finishing above tenth.

Think we’ve had a reasonable start to the season, we should have another 4 points really, Bolton and Charlton!
The way we are playing is also much improved from last season, and I think our forwards will start finding the net?
Unfortunately again we have a few players injured, hopefully nothing too bad.
A point tomorrow would be a good result!

Best case we should have 16 points now - worst case 15 points and we are only on 11 points in 4th position.

“…fantastic manager”? Stephan? The jury is still out. I’m still unclear on the parameters of his job: I guess he does select the team ( I had my doubts about that last season) and coaches. He doesn’t appear to have Warnock ( or Gerry’s) man management skills.

Those types of managers are long gone. He's working under a DoF regime thats chock full various bods with laptops. He'll probably be gone by next season you'll be pleased to know, but in the meantime, i personally feel he's doing a decent job based on the performances alone. Results are not bad either.
Injuries are not helping him, as it looked like he was going to try and keep the squad rotated, and keep everyone involved. Thats not bad man management i guess.

15 from those eight games, not from every eight games. Big difference. The second eight are West Ham, Birmingham, S'hampton, Millwall away and Derby, Swansea, Burnley, Lincoln home. That looks more like 10-12 points.

I do not know why last season's results come into play.....last season was last season and many things can happen from last season to this season.

Myself, I judge on the Teams, both teams, on their performances on the day.

This season we have played one very decent team, Boro, and we have played 5 pretty average sides of which two of them we should, 100%, have beaten - we did not win for a variety of reasons.

But isn’t it a bit early to talk about points totals anyway?

I mean we’ve had a couple of matches that we could have been considered unlucky not to win. Difficult to say whether we’re really toothless up front or it was just one of those things we didn’t score.

The trouble with tying yourself to a high target early in the season is you end up half the season disappointed every time we fail to track the objective. Surely a more modest top half of the table, more points than last season might be a better objective and see where we are in January.

After all should we really have higher expectations than: Middlesbrough, West Ham, Southampton, Burnley, Wolves, WBA, Millwall, Birmingham, Swansea and Bristol City? I’d say they all have a better chance on paper of the play offs so anything above enough of them to reach top 8 would be exceeding expectations surely?

Meanest defence in the division, but have scored the same amount of goals as Burnley who are bottom. Yet have have one of the highest chance creation stats

Points come and go but for the first time in a long while I think we look a serious team rather than a streaky one- well coached,with some players who could play in a top 6 team. If we could ever get them all fit and on the pitch at the same time it would be something.

Also do not buy this line that we have not had hard games- Blackburn have beaten Boro and Millwall at home, charlton arent great but not a pushover at the valley( where we are generally crp ), and chatting to a few west brom fans after the game they said we were the best team they had up there so far

Course we will have struggles but I think right now top 8 is possible. Hopefully.

I think we'll know where we are by the November International break when we've played the likes of West Ham and Southampton but so far so good, we look very good at the back, Kamara has been a very good signing, the keeper is superb and Burrell looks back to his best plus giving minutes to academy players like Scarlett. Lots to like about us this season

I'd be disappointed if we didn't make the play-offs. Yes, there are plenty of other clubs who have more money - West Ham, Wolves, Southampton, etc. but look at Hull last season. No reason we can't do that.

We have got a bloody good spine once everyone is fit (and starting). Just need more from the wingers and fewer injuries.

Maybe, but you can seen the top six starting to take shape now: West Ham top, Brough 4th, Wolves and S'hampton 5th and 6th. That'll be the top 4 in two to three games.

The PL still hasn't decided what punishment it's going to give Eckert for Spygate.

Based on precedent Eckert and maybe some of his coaches should be looking at a lengthy ban.

I used to think that too, but the Beale, Critchley & Ainsworth season has sort of curtailed that for now. Maybe after 18 games.

Agree with the first part, only. What other possible sanction could have been applied that was fair to Middlesbrough. Saints (mmm.) cheated in a knockout competition. The only punishment must be expulsion.

As for the manager, he is said to have admitted his guilt so that may soften the sanction. I would guess at a ninety day ban and a maximum fine.
