| Too many matches 08:41 - Sep 13 with 5616 views | essextaxiboy | Lots of debate recently on here about injuries and although I don’t think our fitness team are doing a great job it clear that lots of teams in this league have lots of early season injuries . I think it may be time to look at reducing the number of teams to 20 as per the Prem league We have to stop for international breaks and have players in summer tournaments but have to ram in extra 8 games resulting in the mess we are just coming to the end of. Not sure how it would impact revenue but re launch it Prem2 and raise the profile and commercial revenue may ease the reduction . | | | | |

Not sure if Adamson features for Aussie Some other clubs will have ore than their fair share of players away So we may have more of our squad able to recover? Knowing our luck we have all manner of freak injuries In training

| Too many matches on 09:08 - Sep 13 with 3969 views | cpgerber | I think the hectic nature of the championship is part of its appeal and while 24 teams are a lot, the issue is compounded by the constant international breaks. The stop-start-stop-start all the time and cramming fixtures into the periods in-between the breaks are killing. I would actually have preferred that the championship just continues through those breaks, but that would put too many teams (ourselves included) at a disadvantage and place even more pressure on squad depth. The annoying thing about those breaks is when you see someone away for 2 weeks and just watching his country from the stands anyway. What's the point? I think they should propose something where teams who want to and are not affected much by international breaks, could still play games in that period, but that would cause other sorts of issues. Even reducing to 22 teams would mean 4 less games = 4 fewer 3-game weeks. Big improvement already. Perhaps we should start there. | | | |
| Too many matches on 09:21 - Sep 13 with 3890 views | Watford_Ranger | From a fan’s point of view, I prefer the longer international break than the two shorter ones disrupting the season early on. It would help for sure but I doubt my season ticket would be reduced by 4/23. Clubs’ wage bills and general running costs would be the same with less income. Sky I’m sure wouldn’t be keen to pay the same to have fewer opportunities to move Derby v Preston to 12:30 for no reason other than piss off people who would have watched it anyway. I can’t be bothered to look up the dates of other seasons but the league started on August 15th and finishes on May 1st. I think they could have extended that by a week at either end to not require so many midweeks. God forbid we accidentally had a cup run. We’d end up with Solomon up front while Kolli watches from the stands. Also, how many of these injuries are the sort players used to play with even at 90%? Was Saito seriously only fit enough to play ten minutes requiring a child to go on in his place? Will Poku blow up into a million pieces if he plays more than an hour every ten days? Plenty of Premier League players seem to get through the vast majority of the league, cups, extra travel and internationals over the course of the season. It’s 48-50 matches maximum over nine months. Spot on - got no problem with players getting contact injuries , Smyth yesterday seemed that. But trying to keep him on as I assume the orders were that Saito could only last 10 Minutes was laughable as was Poku not even being on the bench at Charlton where we needed a wide sub….. | | | |

Im ok with one week having 3 games in them and then back to the 6/7 days the next week. You have to break it up.

I like the Nations League - much better than the old friendlies and gives the smaller teams more competitive fixtures against other teams of similar ranking/standard.

But also as Clive pointed out, the traditional games over Christmas and Easter have been phased out. Put one game on Good Friday and one on Easter Monday and that’s two mid week games gone

Thats more due to when Easter falls which is on an International break again in March. When Easter is later in April in 2028 we'll have the 2 games over that weekend again
| Too many matches on 11:41 - Sep 13 with 3410 views | HammersmithR | So Arsenal have had another 3 game week with travelling to Naples in the week. We went to SE London. Another game right up north last night and the likes of Raya, Califori, Gabriel, Rice, Odegaard, Tzolis, Havertz etc. all played again. Most of our players can barely play a half without some injury and then vanishing from the squad for periods of time. We are incapable of playing our best team week in and week out to get any consistency. It’s ridiculous. I would have thought the likes of Arsenal prepare their players in a very similar way to us, but we literally sign players made of glass. | | | |

I think the Efl should be looking at breaking away and have there own TV rights ect they could work out better kick off times, fixture put fans first ect.The injury problems across the bored are a major problem and the fixtures are a major contribution.

One of the many reasons Arsenal are champions of England and very nearly Europe is that their players are hugely stronger, fitter than other teams, especially mid-level Championship teams, treated and cared for by the very best sporting medical and fitness staff in the world. It always astounds me when people compare Championship players with top PL players. Yes, there's a difference. Obviously! We may have a handful of players with PL technical abilities, but they play for us because of physical impediments (and vice versa). They'd rather play for Arsenal. Also, last season, Arsenal has plenty of injuries: they replaced most of their medical staff in response. We can't really do that, financially. Let's judge them in April - us too.
| Too many matches on 12:39 - Sep 13 with 3220 views | Northernr | One of the things we're really getting screwed with of late is these double aways. The drop off in a team's performance from its mean level when playing 'away fatigued' - that is playing away again if you played away midweek or midweek when you were away on Saturday - is huge. It's like nearly 30%. As last year, we have six of these double aways including this week's which was compounded by the first game being played on Wednesday instead of Tuesday and the second being moved to 12.30 Saturday at the behest of the broadcaster. That's a really tough assignment yesterday in 'away fatigued' state and I'm delighted with a point from it. Later this season we have a week in January where we're at Burnley Tuesday then all the way back up to Lincoln Saturday, in March we have Derby midweek then back up to Preston Saturday. Six of these this season, six of them last year including Hull on Saturday then Southampton on Tuesday (lost 5-0), and the previous year where we had Plymouth Saturday and Hull Tuesday. Conversely, only three times this year do we play a team at Loftus Road in away fatigued state - and one of those was Boro last week. For comparison, west Brom only have four of these double away weeks and one of those involves a midweek at Birmingham. | | | |
| Too many matches on 12:53 - Sep 13 with 3163 views | TK1 | Last season, the squad looked physically ill-prepared. This season, we looked really strong and fit from the start so I have no reproach for the club nor coach. You could not design a worse start to a season for teams if you wanted to injure a load of players just out of preseason before autumn - it's negligent to launch straight into these three games a week matches and to then have a three week break, all while penalising the amount of rest you can get during matches with subs, etc. | | | |

I checked every championship teams fixtures last season and some fared better than others.Bristol City and us had 6 double away weeks over the season, while Watford and Leicester had only 3.Surprise,suprise we have 6 again this season. Some teams are more even than others it seems.

It wouldn't be so bad if they used our London games for this, but we've got Burnley/Lincoln and Derby/Preston as two of ours, how is that fair? After Hull/Southampton and Plymouth/Hull in previous years.

How does the double away games/distance of those games stack up for the other London sides? Are they similarly screwed by the northern balance of the division or is it just us getting the thin end of that particular wedge?

Charlton have five double aways, including West Brom/Stoke (lost the second one 4-0), Burnley/Watford and then Bolton/Sheff Utd a particularly brutal four days in January the same week we've been given Burnley then Lincoln. Millwall have four although one of those involves a trip to West Ham. Their worse ones are this week when they follow a trip to Blackburn with one to Boro, and in April where it's Wrexham/Sheff Utd. Watford have just three. One of them is particularly brutal - Bolton Saturday then Preston Wednesday - but one of the other two includes a trip to us after a midweek at Birmingham. West Ham have five including a difficult Cardiff/Blackburn combo, but one of their other four is us then Charlton.

I think after last season's experiences, Poku has shown us exactly what happens if you overplay him at this stage in his recovery. I'd absolutely treat him with kiddie gloves until he's really evidenced his fitness. Also, comparing the game now with the game a decade or more ago is a mistake. Modern football demands much more high intensity sprinting now - it's something like a 50% increase on football 10 years ago. | Too many matches on 09:00 - Sep 14 with 2214 views | DWQPR | Two other things not mentioned. The strain on the pocket of the average supporter. Usually West Brom would have been close on a sell out especially given the league position of both teams but with Charlton a few days before and 3,000 supporters attending people are watching their pockets more. And secondly, given the greater demands on players and squads with injuries mounting up right across the league what the hell does the EFL think in introducing a 25 player limit for clubs??? Surely this means that more players are more likely to be called up whilst carrying injuries. A 30 man squad would make more sense and if there are to be three game weeks then given that their are nine across the season one a month at a maximum makes more sense and a limit of six matches a month for clubs. Surely it’s not that difficult to work out?
