| Whats it all about Alfie? on 21:56 - Sep 19 by JamesB1979 | I think for a player who has 1) given nothing but 100% for qpr, and 2) one who Dunne has spoken very highly of, the comments from a few are very harsh. He missed a chance. We’re less than 10 games into the season and I think he’s improved significantly. I think he gets far more abuse than is necessary. |
What is harsh? What abuse have I given?? I’m genuinely confused.

And to even pretend that given everything that’s been said, that the original post had nothing to do with Kolli, is frankly ridiculous. |
Don't always agree with you James, but enjoy reading your posts. There is nothing at all about Kolli in that original post though so not sure why it was even brought up.

So Alfie cost us the game, if you read the original post. Do you agree with that? The team did very well to come back from 2 down and one man short to secure a point. But totally harsh to say Alfie lost us 2 points. He should have scored but he didn’t cost us the game PS - not a direct response to your post Hunter, somehow I pressed the wrong button to put in a general comment. [Post edited 19 Sep 22:09]

I’m not sure calling him a Labrador is really that much of a complement. Enthusiasm but no brain. Does as he’s told. I was talking about comments that have been made about him not just one comment. Maybe “abuse” is too strong. I just think it’s OTT. But I probably overreacted, Lloyd is a player I want to do well more than any of the squad to be honest.

Yes, fair enough. On reflection, I was making a link that wasn’t the intention of the post. Lloyd and Kolli comparisons have been made a hell of a lot on here though. I think that’s unfair on both of them.

Sad that after an immense 2nd half from our lads that somebody felt the need to start a negative thread about a lad who made a good contribution to our comeback. And after this week’s numerous ‘Kolli good/Lloyd bad’ posts it’s obvious what the OP was inferring when he decided to start a new thread.
| Whats it all about Alfie? on 22:29 - Sep 19 with 1176 views | MrSheen | I’ve just seen the replay. Maybe a super cool headed finisher (have we had one since John Spencer?) might have placed the second one rather than blasted it, but it was a phenomenal save from the keeper, really outstanding. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

That’s your inference!! I meant boundless enthusiasm! As a loveable trait. Albeit not one that makes him a great footballer. I can accept I could have been clearer, but I had hoped the points about wanting him to score would have showed that. I genuinely like him as a pro. I’m don’t think he’s Championship calibre player (yet) but I like his effort. I love players that give everything (Smyth, Field, etc). And I still think it’s a terrible miss. But that doesn’t make any of the above untrue.
| Whats it all about Alfie? on 22:34 - Sep 19 with 1158 views | Stainrod | No one should enjoy a "pile on" on Alfie. He is pretty well universally popular. He is a player we would all love to succeed. And I absolutely got what Jimmy said about him at the forum. Most of us acknowledge he has great energy. And I give him great credit today for despite not being on the pitch long, he got himself into two excellent positions (arguably more than Burrell did who was on for much longer). But I read a post in the match thread along the lines of "the goals will come for Alfie". Others have suggested similar here. But what is that based on? He has now played 70 senior games and has three goals. Tbf a lot of those were as sub, but a lot were also at an easier level than the Championship. That means when he plays, there is just over a 4% chance that he will score. If he plays a lot up front, just leaving aside what a nice lad he is, how hard he tries etc etc, is that really going to help you into the play offs? Maybe it was just bad luck (again), maybe he does just need one goal and it will click. Honestly, I would be delighted to have this post shoved in my face. Final point: it's definitely a sign of progress how much more supportive the QPR fanbase is of struggling players than when I was a teenager. Times changing for the better. But surely on a message board you can debate a player's performance, as long as it's respectful - and that's all that's going on here as far as I can see... | | | |

Everyone is missing a huge diff between Lloyd and Kolli a pretty obvious one . Lloyd is in the squad. Getting plenty of time on the pitch and contributing to games Kolli isnt and prob never will do With some luck Lloyd should have had three goals this season keepers have pulled off some great saves to stop him, not seen the header yet but from use at the defender was in his back and it came off the the top of his head instead of his forehead .

But would he have been in that position at all? Last season before his injury, most of Burrell’s goals were simple tap-ins. This year bar the first against Cardiff, he doesn’t seem to taking up those predatory positions. I presume this is because he was playing ‘beyond’ Kone last season, but this year is the lone striker? Whatever the reason, we are missing his potency inside the six yard box

| Whats it all about Alfie? on 20:01 - Sep 19 by The_Beast1976 | I thought the defender just did enough to get in his way with the header and make it a little more difficult (albeit that it was still a very good chance, but not a horror miss). Excellent save for the other chance. Hopefully he gets a break soon, gets the monkey off his back, then let's see how he goes. In any event, he tries his heart out and causes problems for the oppo, and that's good enough for me for the time being whilst we see how he develops. |

| Whats it all about Alfie? on 01:56 - Sep 20 with 835 views | Hoopsie | Alright, there is no need to slate Lloyd who is our player. You can call out his miss chances, but at this moment in time most of our players are misfiring, no one can ignore the fact we are one of the championship side with the most shots, touches in the box but with a poor conversion rate and the least goal scored amongst the top 6 (on par with WBA). Now to compare him to a canine is not just unhelpful but demeaning and degrading, even if you have a pure intention and mean no malice, but in a Lloyd “bashing” thread the irony is not lost, you should choose your words and convey what you mean with thoughtfulness. No need to use an animal for comparison, Lloyd is our player! So in a nutshell, Lloyd - is all about running and boundless enthusiasm with no end product - got into good positions and scoring chances but always missed - is never better than Kolli although the latter doesn’t play and/or train well (I know this thread does not bring out Kolli but we know the OP agenda) - played 70 games scoring a few goals with 4% (sic) conversion rate and is the last striker you would bring on if chasing a game, even behind a “player” who never in the squad or I dare say, a much less sighted Obikwu - had lots of play time but never a championship level player, at least not now (for some is never) So we need a striker that has Burrell’s pace, Kolli’s shooting ability, Lloyd’s work rate Kone’s hold up play and Obikwu’s legendary abilities yet to be determined. So I say, we do need another striker* [Post edited 20 Sep 2:04]

Valid point, I know we piled it on second half but actually both times we scored galvanised Preston into looking dangerous. Didn't Charles make a very good save on to the bar at 2-1? To say we would have won the game if Alfie had scored is really not a statement of fact. Reading the board this morning has just about blown my mind, just shows how differently we can all see it: > Stick for Alfie, thought he really gave everything when he came on. His header was unfathomable in that it seemed impossible to stay out, but that happens with all strikers. Kept going straight after and only an incredible save denied him. Really useful sub to have. > Learning that Jimmy got abuse from some at the Lower Loft; I did see him looking over there at one point but never in a million years did I think "fans" would give this man stick. As Clive's piece earlier this week said, he's a man worthy to be mentioned in the same breath as Alan McDonald for his passion, consistency and performances. And I would never say that lightly. Seeing him making apology gestures to the fans at the end of the game, everyone then (thank goodness) was telling him no need, Jimmy, and sung his name. You had one stinker mate, in a heck of a lot of games. It happens. > Reading some people think it was points lost or that we should concentrate on the first half for the bigger picture. Of course there is merit in saying the first half was a huge worry and that a point against Preston is two points dropped, but....I don't really get that overall view. It was a pretty bizarre set of circumstances, your most reliable player having a blunder after 20 seconds, then a whole host of in-form players suddenly forgetting they were professional footballers (see Kamara), then Cirkin having a brain meltdown and giving the ref the chance to be the star....I mean it was pretty odd stuff. I thought at one stage just write it off as one collective bad day, gonna happen on occasions. But to fight back into the game (with only ten men, seems to get forgotten that sometimes) and for Smyth to have the composure and skill to keep that shot down - and the celebrations when it went in, well if that doesn't go down in the top moments of supporting Rangers, what exactly is the point? I feel like some get more excited with selling Eze for £15m cos it may improve the long-term balance sheet than enjoying the actual frigging moments that are memorable on the actual pitch. > Praise for Saito. From where I was standing I thought he was painfully weak, ineffective and frustrating, still a shadow of the player we know he can be. Totally understood why young Leon was hooked but thought he had a very promising first half. But, I know others see it very differently. That's fine, apart from abusing Sir Jimmy Dunne.
