I feel uneasy about the club doing a PR push on young players like this...
Scarlett looks very promising but he's got a way to go before yet he establishes his career. I feel things like this put extra pressure and expectations on young shoulders.

But unfortunately for JS he doesn’t have this clairvoyant with hindsight evaluation to make his decisions before the match.
How, if you are a better writer than Clive, could you come up with a narrative that 1, we lose Vale before a ball is even kicked 2, conceded a 20 sec howler, and the mistake made by our most reliable player, 3. had a player sent with the match 15 mins old, and 4. Conceded a second goal with 70 minutes of football still to be played
Fate is pretty unkind to our gaffer, methinks, in this match we all think should’ve been 3 points, not exactly a walk in the park, but a win is on the cards surely?
So it is understandable for JS to start Scarlett in this match, it is not no pressure game, I agree, but the stage is set for a highly rated player not yet 17 to get his first 11 debut. I would think so.
Now, I wouldn’t argue with your post match analysis, but here we are looking at a coach who has been highly successful in his career coaching young talents that he actually nurtured, brought on the big stage and went off to better things, and his success with Rennes, Strasbourg etc. Why would we think we are better or more experienced to run QPR’s first teams and making those hard and calculated decisions?
It is a spectacular match how his initial decisions did not paid off, but my word, did our team came back fighting and forced a result that wasn’t the end of the world. I think they too were overwhelmed by those events and went a bit lost and downtrodden but the rejuvenated second half performance with immense sense of self-belief and unyielding energy just told me so much of my team, where many have agreed teams of the past would have just melted and gave up without a fight, but not this bunch, with that performance, we take heart, build on it and turn this into a successful and rewarding season.

A couple of things Hoopsie.......basically all about JS & IMHO JS messed up big time but done very well at half time to correct it. It also shows how poor PNE are when we 'ran' the 2nd half with 10 men and very unlucky not to win the match in the last 45 minutes.
1 - JS made a 'schoolboy' replacing Vale with Varane......two very different footballers, chalk & cheeze if you like. The Team would have looked at PNE and their play probably on Friday. I would expect the Team to have known who was starting/playing and given detailed instructions how to defend & how to brake them down & what they should be aware of from the players of Preston. This decision must have thrown all the pre-match plans into disarray.....a waste of time basically. 2 - JD mistake was simply very poor play and nothing the Manager could do about. 3 - Likewise the sending off, and trust me it was a sending off tackle. 4 - The 2nd goal was another poor defensive play by several players, maybe 4 including the keeper.
Fate, not sure about that, bad decisions in playing 'the boy' and not an experienced pro (there are no easy games in the Championship, they are tough, proper tough, one way or the other, there are games when you expect to win and this was one of them) and even worse was replacing Vale with Varane - shocking!!
The excellent news were that the issues were addressed by JS & his team at half time, replaced Varane & Scarlett, very quickly and introduced more attacking experienced players.
I enjoyed the second half immensely, what Rangers fan didn't, because we were positive, moved the ball quickly, wanted it and so on...attitude was so different - why.
Why we were not like that in the first half, I cannot answer because I was not in the dressing room but what I can comment on was the team selection and the Vale matter because it was there to see.
Hopefully we can learn from it and improve even more to give us a 'chance' this season but it will not be easy if mistakes are made.
And yet, if you asked me after the game, I'd have said that Saito was far more effective, and scared the oppo far more.
Saito was running at a retreating defence that was gradually tiring and losing shape, whereas Scarlett was playing in the first half before any of that had commenced.

I agree on Scarlett. I thought Varane was playing ok in a mainly more forward role but was having to come deep because our passing was atrocious. Kamara was very shaky.
Both Varane and Scarlett were removed for tactical reasons not because they were playing poorly.

If replacing Vale with Varane was such an awful decision, who would you have replaced him with? Alemayehu was the only other central midfield player on the bench.

I think probably Isak playing causes less disruption to the side as more natural in that forward midfield role. Other option is Lloyd and go with 2 up front. I would like to have seen Saito replace Vale but not sure he was “fit” enough to start.

Good point James about Isaak but I'm not sure Gazza would want another 'boy' in the line up. As for two strikers, that would have meant changing the game plan that had been prepared, which causes additional disruption. I personally think Varane is a much stronger replacement in central attacking midfield than Saito. Varane's stats.6 passes 100%,not too shabby in 19 minutes
