Kone 00:15 - Oct 16 with 11656 viewsLazyFan

I watched him close last night.

He was slow, but not as slow as the Wet Spam game. So, that was a good sign of progress. He held the ball up better, but his lay-offs need more work, or his teammates are not on the same wavelength. In any rate he was giving Derby some grief, but Derby is not exactly a reference these days. I think he's coming back, but really slowly.

I expect Kohli to start with Smyth and Poku up front. With Kone coming on at the 60-minute mark, as he did against Derby.

Edwards will be in the middle, with JCS back. This will allow Madsen and Kamara to hopefully control the middle. Later on in the game, Edwards can move to RB and Adamson to LB when Kemper gets tired. This would allow Vale or Varane to come on for Kemper, depending on how the game is going.

Having the Vale of Arryn, Old King Kone, and our favourite Chair to sub on would be an awesome set of subs.

It is more than nonsense Norf - madness........I just do not understand it, all very strange.

Saturday - There you have an, apparently, unfit Kone (Not sure he is BTW) and not playing too well so you bring him on at B'ham and leave Obikwu on the bench - why would you do that??

He is either unfit or he has been a naughty boy

Madsen got a kick on his ankle against Derby. He hobbled for a bit, then ran it off. I'm sure Clive's report will address the injury and fitness issues. Apparently, Birmingham fielded the same team as midweek; we seem to be continually resting players, whether that's taking players off after an hour or players can't play successive games. It would be a shame if the promise of this squad is affected by the same issues we've seen in the last couple of seasons.

Birmingham have used their most used 11 players for 86% of all available minutes so far this season which is the most in the league. We've used ours for 72% which is 18th. Those 11 players have already played 1,562 minutes more than ours between them.

Their 9th most used player - Carlos Vicente - has played more minutes than our 4th most used player, Harvey Vale.

Maybe that's all down to luck. Maybe it'll catch up with them over Christmas. Maybe their bench is crap and we have a more balanced squad... Or maybe they're fit as fk and robust and we're not.

Our 9th most used player passed in his sleep, whilst in a non contact dream.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Kone needs taking out and getting fit. I get it, we are badly short. But at this point, making a clearly injured Kone come on and play minutes is helping nobody. Lloyd has injury issues, Burrell is out for *redacted* weeks, Obikwu doesn't exist, but that doesn't mean we should force it. Would rather use Ridwan Hassan or Josh Wright from the Devs, neither are ready and may never be, but they exist for this reason when we have injuries. I don't think flogging Kone when he is injured is of any help to us at all and certainly not for the long term. Have him fit by Christmas would be fine.

I have defended Kone enough times on here over the past few weeks to feel comfortable saying ‘I told you so’ without being accused of using the benefit of hindsight. Kone is a quality Championship striker, who has gone through a rough time with loss of form and injury. What I couldn’t understand was the vitriol and abuse he was taking on here (and this is a generally ‘mature’ and ‘measured’’’ fan base so god only knows what was on Twitter) considering how well he performed last year. He was clearly a Championship standard player last season, so that was not going to suddenly disappear just because he was carrying a series of injuries and couldn’t buy a goal. If he’d had this game against Bolton when he could easily have had a hat trick then his season might be very different to date. I am delighted for Kone, as it is fully deserved. Funny how things work out - if Madsen had being on the pitch it is highly unlikely that Kone would have taken the pen even though he was on a hat-trick.
But my main point is to offer a word of caution about being too quick to write players off. One thing if they are ‘bad uns’ like Barton or never measured up like Celar , but Kone HAD proved himself to be a top notch Champ player. So why not give him time to rediscover his form, rather than dismissing him as not good enough.

I believe if anyone can say I told you so it is I, as I started this thread saying he was coming back and I could see the signs.

Today he held the ball up and won headers, if he keeps doing that then while he's not Sir Less, he's more like a Mark Falco. And that's precisely what we need for this QPR team.

I already know he can score with both feet and hes very accurate and quick at shooting. Its the link play and headers I wanted to see.

Saw all that today, now if he can keep doing that, then we have another Eze money sale on our hands here.

I concur.
Kone was good last season and it was clear to most fans that he wasn't match fit in August and just needed time to do so.

He put in an excellent centre forward display today, winning headers, holding the ball up and most importantly, getting in and around the 6 yard box to get on the end of crosses. He was brilliantly supported by Smyth.

That's an amazing turnaround from Richard Kone! From looking unfit, not sharp, not scoring, not getting much on target if managing to shoot at all, not being able to hold the ball up or link the play, until yesterday suddenly he's scored the earliest if not the quickest hat trick ever in English football, looked reasonably fit, a big threat while he was on the pitch and really enjoying himself. Føkking amazing Rich, well done mate! Really hope he can keep it going.

I said we need him back firing and today my god he was firing! Smyth hepled him out a lot with some good running , but Kones flicks and link up play was back thank gawd! He looked like a different player today and long may it continue.
