| Russell Brand... on 10:12 - Nov 6 with 0 views | SaintNick | I agree with you all on here about Russell Brand, there are few Englishemen on this planet who are as low and odious as Brand. I remember when he was receiving a reward at a ceremony about 20 years ago when he taunted Rod Stewart from the stage about having had a relationship with the singers daughter and Rod showed true class in the way he put him down. As much as I hate Brand, I can't help thinking that although he has exploited his fame to sleep with young women, that he didn't have to try much, you are invited to Russell Brand's hotel room, you know you aren't going there for a chat about football. As much as i am delighted to see his demise, I can't help thinking he has been stitched up | |

He is a big pain in the arse for the establishment, so doubtless that will play a part. I also don't like the bloke much, to say the least. And if he is guilty may he rot in hell. But I would like to see some of the others (who cannot be named) who commit such acts, especially against under age women to get similar punishments.

Listening to some of the tv comments it seems that he has escaped rape charges, it is the non consentual sexual acts he has been found guilty of, so they all seem to have gone back willingly but then found he was a little more sexually adventurous than they were

Was he a pain for the establishment? Genuine question as I have ignored him for a long time, but didnt realise he had gone down that route. I known he had changed tact and had become another of those unfortunate people who find God just before going to prison (like Tommy R and my near neighbour Danny Tommo), but hadnt realised he was anti establishment. Mind you, when ex Tory Stockbroker and crypto currency vehicle Nigel Farage is deemed anti establishment, then maybe the Overton Window has changed there as well

I thought he'd been charged with 1 charge of rape and 2 charges of sexual assault? Also it sounds like there's another two charges coming which have been referred to the CPS including 1 that's rape of a 16 year old girl. I very much doubt this has anything to do with a conspiracy about his largely irrelevant media content, and much more to do with the fact that's he's a massive f*cking wrong un with a history of abusing women.

Stitched up !!! Are you serious ? The women concerned all said they knew they were going to have sex with Brand but didn’t sign up into being forced to do things against their will. Brand ignored the word no and treated women like commodities to be discarded after he had become bored of them. In his book Brand himself describes how he stalked a girl then watched her cry whilst undressing her. He’s yet another predator enabled by the BBC and Channel 4. Expect more cases to emerge and a long stretch inside.

Yes I am serious, as much as I deplore the crimes that he committed and I cannot think of many more so called celebrities that I hate as much as Brand and the way he has behaved throughout his time in the limelight, I still can't help thinking that some of this, perhaps not all has come out of the woodwork a little and money is at the root of it. I am not sticking up for his behaviour in any way shape or form and I have not had the opportunity of spending several weeks looking at the evidence as the jury have, but when I look at the charges I still think that he is getting stitched up on some of them. Overview of Charges Across the investigation and trial, Brand faced seven charges: Three counts of rape Three counts of sexual assault One count of attempted indecent assault (reduced from indecent assault during trial) He ultimately was found guilty of one rape and three sexual assaults, and acquitted of two rapes and one attempted indecent assault. So given all the 7 offences were of a similar nature, Brand chats to a woman, who is open to his advances, probably because he is a "Star", they probably know his reputation and that they will be in affect one night stands and used, they are not expecting a long term relationship. Take the count of rape he is found guilty for The incident occurred in 2009 after a gig. Complainant described a sexual encounter in Brand’s dressing room involving another woman. Later, at Brand’s home, she stated that consensual sex turned into anal rape, with Brand removing a condom without consent. Brand later sent her a message apologizing. Jury convicted him of rape. So the woman has been happy to have had a threesome in his dressing room, so she is clearly sexually experienced and happy to get into this sort of thing. She then went back the Brand's home, given the earlier sexual encounter she knew what she was getting into and was happy to go home with him, happy to give him her phone number so he could text her After that it is all hearsay and it takes 17 years to get it to court The other 3 charges of sexual assault followed similar patterns, at least two of them appeared to have started in front of witnesses in a public place, a London bar & also a radio station, yet no one reports it to the police or tries to stop it, & it takes 22 years to get them both to court. If I was a woman being dragged into a toilet in a London bar against my will, I would be screaming my head off & shouting for help, but that doesn't seem to have happened and you have to ask the question why ? As I say I could not hate Brand any more than I do and his behaviour, I could not deplore the crime of rape and sexual assault more, but there is something in this that doesn't sound right. Not a sexual crime, a woman I know was walking across the car park in Hedge End at Sainsbury's earlier this week about 5.30 in the evening looking at her phone and some scumbag snatched it and ran, a man nearby saw this happen and chased them and retrieved the phone. Now if an ordinary man in Sainsbury's would do this, how did one of Brand's victims be dragged into a toilet unwillingly to perform oral sex ? in front of a number of customers in a bar. Too much hearsay involved in this and it was Brand's word against the complainant,

I havent seen the full evidence, all I am saying is that it cast doubt in my mind and that comes from someone who thought it serves him right when I saw he had been found guilty. As I said on one of the charges he was convicted of there were just the two people present, one of them was lying, who knows which one , there was no other evidence other than their own testimony's, he said he didn't do it, she said he did. Easy to not believe Brand as he is such an awful human being, easy to say serves him right, but that does not mean he was guilty

To clarify this is a debate I am not defending Brand at all for any of his behaviour, I'm just looking at the evidence and thinking if this wasn't Brand, then I might think differently about this conviction

I'm sorry nick but you're badly wrong on this one, just because someone has given consent once doesn't mean that consent is forever. Even if the woman knew the likelihood if she didn't give consent in that specific moment it's rape. Also the time to court isn't surprising in the slightest, a lot of women fear humiliation, reprisal and being re-traumatised in this types of cases, and the vast majority simply never report them in the first place. The type of language and thinking that says "well she had a threesome so clearly she was up for it" is exactly the kind of shaming that stops them from speaking up. Anyway at the end of the day what we think doesn't matter because a court made a decision and he's now looking at a long sentence, with possibly more to years to follow when the other cases land

| Russell Brand... on 16:51 - Nov 6 with 0 views | Southamptonfan | Russell Brand comes across as an odious, pervy tw@t and it doesn't surprise me at all that he was convicted. I would guess he did it. But I think what Nick is saying, and correct me if I am wrong Nick, but he is saying that without CCTV to prove categorically what happened, or a witness, is the evidence completely compelling, 100 per cent? It is then one person's account against another. It's supposed to be beyond all reasonable doubt. Maybe there is CCTV, or other compelling evidence, I don't know, maybe the other evidence is overwhelming, I haven't studied the evidence. Lucy Letby was convicted, but again no CCTV showing her actually doing it or witnesses just hearsay, suspicions, and when she was on shift. Dave Jones was found not guity, but look at how people tried to lie about him being an abuser for money and many came forward as they sniffed a chance of compensation from a rich individual. Russel Brand comes across as the type of.person who would commit the crime for sure and the way he behaved with lots of different women, he deserves what has happened, but understand the reasoning for.debate. If you look at the statistics around rape it's horrendous really, 71,000 rapes reported every year & only 6% reaching prosecution (data: Rape Crisis). Rape Crisis figures are just England and Wales, not UK. They estimate that only 15% of rapes are reported. So the actual annual figure is around 477,000 rapes. Of those, the number of convicted rapists (63% of those that get to court, CPS data) the figure is ~2,600. From rape, to reporting, to prosecution, to conviction, the proportion of rapists being convicted is 0.55%. So the proportion of rape victims not seeing justice: 99.5%. I think we can all agree that's a disgrace and shows how incompetent the system is in regards this crime. The fact that there's been a real meaningful conviction in the case of Brand is surely a positive though | | | |
| Russell Brand... on 17:40 - Nov 6 with 0 views | Butty101 | A bit like David Williams he is a complete wrongun. However I tend to agree with Nick. I’m not sure how you get to reasonable doubt. I actually saw a gig of his in Bournemouth in the 2000s. Through out the gig he was constantly encouraging woman to meet him in the bar afterwards for a shag. I mean it was ridiculous how many times he said it. However in the bar afterwards he wasn’t short of options. He had the pick of the woman there . | |
