Opinions on Everton 13:19 - Jan 2 with 5145 views | RblockPrior | Do u think we should rest players? Give fringe players a chance or go for our strongest team? I think we should go for it but can see the like of Traore swp and Hitchcock playing which isn't a bad thing

Opinions on Everton on 15:22 - Jan 2 by Toast_R | "I remember Langley and Carlisle both getting injured in a cup game with Brentford and that (basically) dooming us to division 3 football for a couple of years". Do me a lemon! |
I must've missed that Brentford cup game as well !!!!! Shall I tell him it was Konks mob in the league or will you ??

Opinions on Everton on 15:19 - Jan 2 by stowmarketrange | I'm not saying we won't pay it,but the added riches of a year milking Sky wouldn't half knock a large slice off of what we'd have to find. |
I understand. I'm just trying to avoid this issue either way. If we don't want to even try and win the FA Cup because our entire energy is focused on trying to get to a competition that we will never have a hope of winning, then that leads me into crevices of my mind where I'm forced to confront questions about our raison d'être that sanity advises I should avoid.

Opinions on Everton on 15:08 - Jan 2 by essextaxiboy | I always find myself pretty isolated on this debate . I would play a complete team of fringe players , Who out of the eleven who started yesterday would you be happy to pick up an injury and even miss a couple of games ... for me none . History shows that its this sort of game where we pick up a bad one . Why take the risk ? Everton will not field a strong (relatively) team , if we go there and have a real go at them with some youngsters with a bit to prove we may have some success . If not we have a fit rested first team for some big league games coming up . |
Isolated plus one - I'm with you!
Opinions on Everton on 15:36 - Jan 2 with 1030 views | ElHoop | It would be lunacy to play anyone who has been struggling carrying an injury over Christmas. The rest can play as far as i am concerned, but how many haven't been carrying something or have been resting getting over an injury? This probably means a weak side turing out against Everton, but fully justified.

Quite. And NorthernR has said the very last word on this particular subject.

Its not about winning the Premier League . We are growing the club off of the pitch and we need to be in the Premier League for the money and the commercial opportunities. I like to see some of the best players in the world at LR . I like the venom of a Chelsea derby I like to read a full page spread about our game and listen to opinion on the radio . The buzz when you walk out of White City station is differant for a Premier League game with the TV crews and the touts . I will go whatever the Division , I hardly watch the Premier League because we are not in it , but I would like us to be .

I am in total agreement with you from a fans point of view.I'd take a trip to Wembley for the semi final and final over ten years of mediocrity in the premier league anyday, but sometimes we have to look at the bigger picture. Nobody is going to look in the football history books and say that a team spent 15 seasons in the premiership, but they will always look and see that QPR played in the FA cup final in 1982. I can't understand teams in the premier playing weakened sides against any opposition in either cup competitions, but in our present situation,I can accept it.

I understand all that, and I wouldn't mind us being in it either. I'm also really excited about Warren Farm. Just not at the expense of every other thing - abandoning our home, badge, kits, affordable tickets for kits, football style, FA Cup etc etc etc.

Opinions on Everton on 17:28 - Jan 2 with 964 views | derbyhoop | I'm expecting something like:- Murphy; Luke Young, Onouha, Hill, Traore; Henry, Jenas, SWP, Benayoun; AJ and Zamora. Hitchcock, Sendles-White, Sharif all on the bench.

Diakite in for Jenas and agree with that. We've seen this season what Jenas can / can't do.
Opinions on Everton on 17:33 - Jan 2 with 958 views | daveB | if the players are fit play them if not rest them, not a tough decision really. Austin got injured in training so should the players no longer train for fear of injury as well? Also Carlisle and Langley were injured in a league game not a cup one
Opinions on Everton on 19:47 - Jan 2 with 913 views | kysersosaqpr | We're meant to have the strongest squad in the Championship - well let's use it and see if some of the "fringe" players are up for it. We will get injuries and Harry will get to see who can stand up to the mark. Everton will play reserve squad players, and I reckon some of ouR youngsters may just give em a surprise! If we never play em them we'll never know.

far less likely to get injured in training than in a match though. Certain players like Austin are key, we should leave them out. I mean, why risk it?

Nedum and Barton for me. Agree not much else but I certainly wouldn't play those 3. Think we should also rest 1 of Dunne and Hill....don't mind which, I can't chose between them.

and really want to see Diakite start. Young and had talent....hopefully we'll give him a chance. Just needs some coaching in my view.
Opinions on Everton on 22:48 - Jan 2 with 840 views | Discodroid | Couldnt have been a worse draw imho .A decent prem team with a bright young manager who will want to win a trophy and a few players that can tear us apart if in the mood. for what its worth my team ------------------GREEN SIMPSON NEDUM THE YANK TRAORE SWP DIAKITE JEANAS BENNY HITCHCOCK PHILLIPS would have liked to play a few more youngsters ie harriman/ehmer/andrade but out on loan.might as well play the yank if he is still alive,

I think it would be quite unfair on Diakite after playing so little football to just sling him in from the start against Everton. He'll inevitably struggle, and then be written off for another six months - as happened against Swindon.
Opinions on Everton on 22:55 - Jan 2 with 825 views | Antti_Heinola | I'm normally in support of strong sides in the Cup. You can't leave players out in case they get injured - that's madness. Yes, it's happened twice to us in recent memory, but that's really just bad luck. It's not like every side every year loses a good player in the 3rd round. I'd play a full side, minus Austin, and only because of the recent injury, which is only sensible as we play twice in 4 days.

Opinions on Everton on 22:56 - Jan 2 with 825 views | JamesSW12 | He was played on the wing that night though. He has to play central mid. It's a tough ask to play him but I'm still hoping that player we saw when on loan is still there. People talk about the game against arsenal but I though when down to 10 men, he was outstanding at old trafford. Maybe a game like everton will give him chance to shine.....

The latter posts on that thread are quite fair & complementary. I'd imagine that some of your boys will really want to play in this game, especially Joey & Clint Hill, returning to their home city. Big stadium; big crowd; a chance to make a name for themselves against a top 6 Premiership team. How many of your squad actually hold an F.A Cup winners medal, then?
Opinions on Everton on 08:34 - Jan 3 with 763 views | Pommyhoop | He should play Bobby Z from the start and finally kill him off. Death by 4.5.1 Then he should look at the camera and say' See Tone we have lost our best striker. We really are down to the bare bones' He'll probably save BZ for our really important games and Charlie Austin will do his cruciate.

Opinions on Everton on 08:44 - Jan 3 with 760 views | simmo | I don't think it matters what team we put out as Everton will probably have too much for us, especially with us away from home. Their 'fringe' players include Jelavic, Mirallas, Oviedo, Alcaraz, Stones, Naismith.... That being said we owe it to the competition and the fans that will make the journey to field a strong team that will want to win. I wouldnt like to risk Austin if we don't have to, especially as he may have been rushed back as it is, also Johnson might have something extra against his old team so might be worth going with him. Also Hill for Dunne which I think should be the regular change anyway. SWP anyone? Expect to see Jenas, and probably Henry though. Anbody want to give me odds on seeing the lesser spotted Diakite?!
