That article draws attention to a 'rather embarrassing slip-up' by Redknapp.

And to think that he also sold Danny Simpson to Leicester for next to nothing believing that he wasn't good enough for the PL and leaving absolutely no specialist cover for Isla. Now Simpson is on the brink of winning a PL medal and according to a very good feature in the Times a couple of weeks ago is the in form English right back this season. I long for the day that Redknapp finally gets found out. Hopefully he has some rather dubious financial connections to Panama.

The man's a parody of himself now. F365 also pointed this out:

*********
Let’s just re-visit one line from that Harry Redknapp piece — not the one about it being ‘almost certainly too late’ for Wes Morgan and England — but this one: ‘I remember watching him when he first came through at Nottingham Forest and thinking he was good enough then to play in the Premier League.’

If only Redknapp had been managing a Premier League club at the time (he was).

And now read this from Jamie Redknapp in the Daily Mail: ‘I wonder how many managers have looked at him over the years and thought he’s not quite good enough for the Premier League. My dad sent scouts to watch him loads of times.’

Sandra will have to sit between them at lunch.

*********

I don't think anyone could have predicted Simpson would be a right back for a title winning side - he can't cross a ball for starters - but, dubious personality aside, he was plenty good enough for us.

Love that the ghost writer either didn't bother checking or, more likely, thought he'd stitch 'Arry up a kipper over Morgan though. Brilliant.

Bare bones.

It's getting a bit silly now this. I mean, I didn't cope very well with him trotting out his bullsht lies and fairy stories with no comeback questions from journalists while he was our manager very well. I thought it was unforgiveable, of the few decent journalists we do have left covering our club, to let him keep saying "we don't have a lot of options at right back" without at least asking him and then making a big deal out of him selling Danny Simpson.

But I understand that as a hack you need your sources, and Redknapp obviously treats his very well, so this myth of him being some sort of new Brian Clough is allowed to grow and perpetuate unchecked. There's a West ham element to this as well - Scott Parker won the Football Writer's POTY award a couple of seasons back FFS.

But now, he's managing no fcker. He's scratching around for a job because he's finally, mercifully been found out. And yet still there are newspaper editors, and presumably newspaper readers, who want to hear what old 'Arry has to say, unchecked.

This Wes Morgan thing is hilariously incompetent but I'd say his column earlier this season where he said he always knew Aaron Cresswell was a "good little boy" because he'd watched him repeatedly at Ipswich is worthy of equal scrutiny. After all, Cresswell was a "good little boy" at Ipswich, and at Tranmere, for quite a while, round about the time Redknapp was spuffing QPR's money up and down the wall to get Benoit Assou Ekotto in here on loan to play in his position - half heartedly - for a year. Not so good you'd spend a fraction of that money, with an agent you don't usually deal with, to sign him for your team then no?

Likewise, his recent Evening Standard column where he said he knew Dele Alli was destined to be magnificent because when Tom Hitchcock (who couldn't get in our team because Will Keane and Mobido Maiga were playing) was on loan at Mk Dons, Kevin Hitchcock would come back from watching his son play every weekend and talk about how brilliant Alli was. Full stop. QPR subsequently spent the thick end of £26m on Fer, Sandro and Mutch to play in Alli's position and Redknapp has the stones to now tell people he knew Alli was brilliant all along? And novody says why didn't you just spend £5m there and not spend the rest at all? And he says "the boy Sandro" is a tremendous footballer (with a tremendously favorable agent).

And people still want to read what this cnt has to say?

Thankfully, the last of the dinosaurs. May his extinction arrive quickly.

There was an article recently where it was alleged a PL manager was taking a percentage of each player purchase.
I know there were suggestions years ago Gerry Francis was doing the same at QPR but the minute any manager is on a percentage then as an owner, CEO, DoF etc how do you fully know for sure that the player is bought for the best interests of the club?

I'm pretty sure 'arry was on the same directly or indirectly. I'm sure he was fully aware of the likes of Dele Alli but it's not in his interests to sign such a player.

Even if a club does not allow such a clause for their manager, they'll just strike up a deal with an agent so either way you're fked. Simply way is for clubs to stop employing these charlatans. Looks like 'arry been found out and maybe the PL manager alluded to earlier won't get a new contract at his existing club or anywhere else. I certainly wouldn't employ such a person.

As said, it's about time these dinosaurs become extinct.

Francis' deal was that he was on a percentage of the value of the squad, regardless of whether he sold players or not.

An example: If the squad was worth £50m and he signed young Juzzie from Melchester Rovers for £2m and then coached him into a £5m player (assessed by him and ownership) then the squad value was now £55m less the £2m spent - so he got a cut of the £3m profit, even if Juzzie was never sold.

So there was no incentive on Francis to sell.

Allegedly it's the fella who took Sandro on loan. The same Sandro who apparently has a mandatory purchase clause after a certain number of appearances (according to Dave McIntyre I think) and the very same Sandro who has been subbed on in the 89th minute in quite a few games.

Clive, superb post.

But, you know, these dodgy things are rife. I think the GF one was fine (I actually thought he took a percentage of profit in sales, but whatever, he's been very open about it). I know for a fact that one of our recent managers, and it's not hard to work out who it is, would look at his bench, ask who had the biggest appearance bonus, do a quick deal with them and then put them on for the last 2 mins. Not sure he did it with us (prob did though) but certainly did it for a Yorkie side he managed for a long time. And that's far from uncommon. And pretty harmless, i guess...

Bare bones.

Redknapp waxes lyrical about Morgan yet we all know that if he were managing a Premiership side now and they needed a CB, Redknapp would try to sign Jonathan Woodgate - on a five year deal.

IMO managers should not be able to gain financially in any way from player sales, player purchases, squad values, appearances etc etc.

It's not like they're badly paid. A flat rate salary then bonuses maybe based on TEAM performances or achievements.

So, in theory, we could be 0-1 down with two minutes to go - the manager could put a centre back on, as Mr centre back has the biggest appearance bonus, instead of a player far more likely to score?

Not digging you out Antii, but that is a stinking policy if it were used.

A s much as I think Hodgson is the wrong choice for England imagine if Arry had got the job
we would have Terry at the back a midfield of Carrick & Cole, with Defoe and crouch up top , he would have also pimped out Wembley executive boxes and after a bad draw against Andorra he would have lamented not getting to pick Bale & Ronaldo because there not English

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

In theory, yes! Obviously I'm not condoning it. In practice, no manager is likely to jeopardise a result for £60, but it happens. A lot.

Bare bones.

If nothing else, old 'arry does bring us together as board in unified hatred of his charlatan ways, incompetence and vested interests.

And how we disregarded S'oton fans all those years back....

You don't need to tell me that! Pretty sure of was one of the first to be putting forward reasoning, rather than just name calling, as to why the man is a charlatan and terrible "manager". Essex, JD, DaveB...more than a few who I had heated run ins with.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing for bringing people together though.

you weren't shy of name calling to anyone who disagreed with you.

As i said at the time was pointless sacking him as the club was in no fit state to replace him, i had no faith at all in them getting it right and with hindsight they didn't get it right when he went and we got worse. Of course we could all name many managers who could have done a better job but they would have probably failed under the regime at QPR.

For me he wasn't that terrible as a manager for us, we knew what we were getting when he came in and thats what he did, spending fortunes on big names and eventually getting promoted. That what the owners wanted and if it hadn't been Redknapp it would have been a different bloke doing very similar things. He did some good things, some bad and some terrible during his time with us but I'm not sure he quite deserves the level of abuse he gets on here whilst the fella in charge who has done a terrible job gets his name sung at matches.
