Friends of mine got one, and learned everything off their Portuguese neighbours. They were hardly allowed to do anything themselves. The only rule is, you have to keep showing up, because people get very aggrieved if a plot is allowed to go wild.
Another friend developed a hatred of badgers, who are the biggest threat to the crop around here. He started leaving margarine pots with his own poo in around to ward them off.

Yeah just had a long chat with an established holder who said the same thing about letting it grow wild because of all the seeds that blow around into other plots.
I am deeply troubled about the Margarine pots.

Give it straight back to the council now before you waste any time planting seeds that will get eaten by the birds.Use the money saved to buy a beer fridge and put it in your front room by the tv.For the fresh air you’d get at the allotment, just open your window.

I've had one for 4 years. Absolutely overrun when I got it, now in pretty good order but does need constant work to keep on top of it. Pretty much been there every day during furlough. However, nothing beats taking seven months to grow three quids worth of onions!

Grow nice stuff strawberries raspberries sweet corn plant fruit trees. Growing at Allotments is not cheaper than supermarkets but the stuff you grow tastes 10 times better than supermarket bought fruit and veg. It’s hard work and requires time and effort but worth it. But if you can’t spare the time don’t bother. Had mine 5 years it’s good fun. Has been great during the lockdown. Loads of people start and give it up but Good luck with it.

There’s a very good book called “Allotment month by month” by Alan Buckingham which tells you what you should be doing, sowing and growing at any one time of the year.

Judging by your stand in the political threads,is it going to be a collective farm? If so,can I come collect something when you’ve grown it? Put me down for some spuds,an onion and some carrots please. Cheers.
