Your post made me smile nostalgically. It's a long time since squad numbers meant anything. 2 was right back, 3 was left back, 4, the holding midfielder, 5&6 the twin CB's and so on. And 12 was the sub, the only sub - happy days

I'm quite encouraged that 5 and 7 are vacant, it implies that we're looking to bring in either a central defender or defensive midfielder (5) and possibly a wide midfielder but not an out-and-out attacker (7)

And that they are likely starters or at least on the bench.
