Ainsworth - Long Ball Lenny or Flashy Fred 22:44 - May 15 with 3046 views | numptydumpty | Can Ainsworth adapt systems for our flair players ?? Or are we going to be rigid 4 - 4 - 2 under his management. The last home game I felt was a great opportunity to test out the waters. The fact that he chose not to, was concerning, in that I personally believe all Ainsworths games are going to be down the same route no matter what. What do we all think ??

Ainsworth - Long Ball Lenny or Flashy Fred on 00:45 - May 16 with 2886 views | Lblock | Flair players? What is this madness you speak of?! Willock when the sun was shining on the odd occasion in August, Chair when he was t having to do everyone else’s running and errrrrrrrrmmmm… that’s it I think? I’d be happy enough with 100% effort, solidity, hard to beat and we’ll drilled. Start with the basics next season Unless you mean the new Chinese commercial football rules of flair play? Whatever he does I hope Ains is backed and I wish him every success

Ainsworth - Long Ball Lenny or Flashy Fred on 04:24 - May 16 with 2818 views | westy | Ahh yes the good old Barca of the Championship. What is the special QPR way of playing. I personally think it’s one of hope rather than substance. Maybe we need to be a bit more realistic about our current situation regarding playing staff and budget atm. Every fan wants their team to play a certain way. Whether that be as you say with Flair players passing teams to death and winning games the mercurial way. Or with hard graft, grit and determination. Yes the both should come hand in hand but unfortunately those players / managers / budgets are very difficult to find. Managers do not get given the time frame from neither the club or its supporters. Say GA came out and said he was going down the Barca way of playing and it’s going to take a year or two to change it around. That’s being generous as I personally think it would take 5/10 years to completely change the culture. If he lost the first 4 or 5 games next season he’d be sacked as the fans would be going mental and give the board no choice. A close friend of mine who I won’t mention has been a manager in the PL & the Championship and was known for playing an easy on the eye way. He said that in the end if he didn’t win in 3 games the chairman was on the phone demanding changes as the financial implications of relegation/ perceived failure was too big a hit to take. He has since taken a more senior role in his positions as it’s a safer option and more stable for his family. I honestly do not think that GA has just one way of setting his teams up and to say that Wycombe only played a certain way is a bit of a false statement as I saw plenty of their matches to realise that’s certainly not true. A lot of that is borne through opposition fans/ managers as a way of deflecting losing to “little Wycombe” something which a lot of the teams had to get used to. It’s a fine line between winning and losing. Yes I agree the way we played at certain times under GA last season was rather industrial and not something I’m sure he and RD want to continue long term however needs must at certain times. I also agree the last game against Bristol City was very poor both from him and the players. But we are not on the training ground and I maybe think certain players had been giving it large and playing big time Charlie mode. Anyway I’m waffling now. We all want to win games as fans so that to me is where we all have common ground, how we achieve that will always be up for debate and is why I love the game. It will be an interesting summer and first month of the season. [Post edited 16 May 2023 4:29]

59% possession at the Emirates would clearly suggest that they are an excellent side in possession and are very effective when they have the ball. Of course they mix things up on occasions, either by design or due to pressure exerted by the opposition. The long and accurate pass to Mitoma for one of their goals being a case in point, but that isn't their norm/default. The way they play is far removed from ad nauseam hoofball/Gazball, where a decent share of possession is deemed as an anathema. Waiting to be proved wrong by Gazza. Here's hoping he manages to get more than the 43 points picked up by Wycombe at this level, playing in his preferred way and with his players on board to finesse and perfect it. If we play anything like Brighton next season I don't think anyone will be complaining. Think thats unlikely though to be honest
Ainsworth - Long Ball Lenny or Flashy Fred on 11:01 - May 16 with 2284 views | stantheman10 | Realistically I think we are going to be watching a similar style to what was played during the Burnley and Stoke games for next season at least. He is going to want to ensure we stay in the Championship next season and with the finances we have I think GA will be signing scrappers rather than flair. If we stay up next season then maybe he can start looking at a different style for 24/25 season but I wouldn't expect to see too much pretty football in the next year | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Ainsworth - Long Ball Lenny or Flashy Fred on 12:17 - May 16 with 2193 views | E15Hoop | Picking up on Chef's point, Numpty, we have devoted a lot of time already to this topic to be fair. Westy's in one of the best positions to comment on this having been a regular at Wycombe more regulalry and more recently than me, however, what I will throw in to this (again summarising what I've already written elsewhere) is that it seems to be too easily forgotten that Ebere Eze spent half a season at Wycombe, and Matt Phillips, Jordon Ibe and Anis Mehmeti are just three of the players who have gone on record to say how much GA and Richard Dobson helped them develop technically. This was also covered by GA in the 18-minute video interview by Nick London on the official site, so I would recommend you watch that if you haven't yet.

Are you ignoring the thousands of times this season that Brighton have played the ball out from the back with multiple passes? And the number of times this has led to them scoring? This applies to Arsenal as well!
Ainsworth - Long Ball Lenny or Flashy Fred on 21:47 - May 16 with 1833 views | numptydumpty | It's a genuine concern But I did think needs must was partly the reasons but the last game set up was weird. Obviously we have no ideas, as to our squad and new players and who else will leave. It would do my head in, if it was to be long ball and no possession. Dull even if positive results. Ok if its been said before, I will not talk of such matters until the new season and just pray to the almighty coach in the sky that we play silky soccer with end product !! Amen !!

Whatever Gazball is it will be a million miles off how Brighton play. Against arsenal for every long ball there was 5 times the keeper played it short to suck in the Arsenal press . Pep called De Zerbi a genius at getting his teams to play out and mixing it up a bit with purpose probably a good idea.. be ecstatic if we were 50% of that. I fear instead Gazball is smashing it forward with no conceivable plan and no pattern of play- hit and hope and run a lot … come crawling off the pitch I think he said… hope I am wrong mind you.

I'm sure Gary Waddock was manager when Matt Phillips and Ibe were at Wycombe. Was GA part of the backroom staff at that time? Dobson would have been there then. [Post edited 17 May 2023 10:18]

I don't understand what Ains means in this interview when he says: I'm going to shy away from putting crosses in the box, putting it on the opposition, in their areas. https://www.kilburntimes.co.uk/sport/23527322.qpr-boss-ainsworth-wants-instil-cu
