Due to location of this year's family Xmas get together, a trip to The Den wasn't viable on Boxing Day, but Oxford v Cambridge was.
Must admit I didn't take much notice of the team announcements, so it was about 10 minutes in when my son said "that's George Thomas!" Shortly after, he got an assist from a well taken corner, the sort we so often attempt but fail - whipped in to the near post, but high enough for a team mate to get a flick on, causing havoc...the ball was eventually prodded in by...Jordan Cousins!
Despite that ex-Rs combo resulting in a goal, neither did much else. Thomas was playing up top in a 442 - ran around a lot, but to limited effect. Cousins slowed the game down most of the time he received the ball, and was ineffective.
When Oxford finally woke up, they edged the win. Their young winger Tyler Goodrham looked useful. Normally I'd have been thinking "he could be a handy signing for Rangers"...but given that they could easily swap places with us at the end of the season, that won't be happening.
Anyway there's my George Thomas update - why did we never put him on corners? |  |

I'm at home bored, with Covid. This gives a pretty good snapshot of our Academy standards. Some released players careers so far.
Themis Kefalas - Greek 3rd tier. Non League equivalent.
Shiloh Remy - just signed for Dagenham National League. Won manager, club and supporters player of the year at Eastbourne last season. Fair play to the lad.
Franklin Domi - Ebbsfleet, National League
Dashane Dalling - no club. Think he made an FA cup appearance for us.
Dylan Duncan - no club. Just released by Clyde who are bottom of Scottish League 2.
Aramide Oteh - remember him! At Walsall, L2. Actually scored a couple of times.
Jake Frailing - Walton & Hersham. Southern League Div 1 South.
I could go on, but I think you'll get the picture.
I thought maybe one might have slipped through the net and gone on to play at L1 or Championship level, but no. This tells me one of two things potentially; our Academy coaches are great at spotting which ones will make it and keeping them, or....
