I read this and now my brain hurts. Just imagine how much his brain hurts after writing it!

Top work, Sir. Really interesting break down.

Having overcome a number of seasons struggling with the soft underbelly tag at the end of last season, what do we do? Buy another bunch of sops during the summer and take us back to square one.

You couldn’t right it.

Clearly the midfield is the biggest problem looking at these states, but it highlights a couple of real worries.
Firstly that without 35 year old Colback the midfield is non existent. Why go into the season with no cover? Hayden on loan surely in January.
Secondly, it does highlight Fields limitations as discussed on another thread a few weeks back.

This is all so depressing, yet reassuringly familiar.

Great piece. As someone who has dabbled in stats I can only feel intimidated by how clearly and elegantly these are presented.

Seems that if we can just create more decent chances, stop going behind, stop getting our shots and crosses blocked, stop letting teams fcuking waltz through us by putting in a few tackles and the odd interception, we should be eh mostly fine...
