Who should have Marti started up front? 14:56 - Mar 30 with 2388 views | LazyFan | So, against Stoke, out is ... Frey, Celar, Kohli, Kelman (loaned). Lloyd is just coming back from injury, so, on the advice of medical staff, he cannot start. Clearly, Smyth and Dembele cannot start up front. I would have started Madsen up front. He does not run back so, no need to worry about that as he's upfront and at least he can do five-yard passes. I would have forced him to hold the ball up somehow, as well. We could also find out if he can head the ball despite being a giant and if he can play in another position seeing as he won't run around for the middle. See, Marti's problem now? When you have 4 forwards and they are all unfit and the fifth is out on loan, then you have no forwards and that was Stoke. Zero forwards so, he's forced to playing wingers up front and some of them are injured. Essentially, our whole attack is injured. I am surprised we scored even. On the upside, Yang may be better on the left wing than the right wing. Cutting inside, he seems to be quite useful.

Who should have Marti started up front? on 17:21 - Mar 30 with 2047 views | Ned_Kennedys | “Lloyd is just coming back from injury, so, on the advice of medical staff, he cannot start” Again why is this allegedly a fact? He was deemed fit enough to play the whole of the 2nd half so why not start the game with a striker (or as near as we have one in the circumstances) and review the situation at HT?

He'd probably do less harm though.... to the opposition as well as ourselves. [Post edited 31 Mar 16:00]

Yup, remarkable stuff! I've no idea whether the strikers in the Dev. Squad/u-18s show promise, but if there is a decent prospect then let him gave a go. Just tell them, 'There's no pressure on you. So don't worry, just go out there out and enjoy it!' If anything, it might answer a few questions about a lad but also, seeing a young pup busting a gut out there might galvanise others around him to join in, even if just for the sh1ts and giggles of having a bloody good go!

Who should have Marti started up front? on 17:36 - Mar 31 with 1329 views | NorthantsHoop | Put Jimmy Dunne up front, with Dembele and Smyth working around him. Jimmy is more than capable of holding the ball up and heading the ball on and battling away against centre backs.

That's basically what Kevin Francis (those who know, know) did years ago. Being so tall he was able to draw defenders towards him and do the knock downs for others to sweep up and score from. I then seem to remember a match report where (I think it was) Mickey Adams basically told his players not to all try and win the ball off him in the air, because they won't. Try and anticipate where/who it'll drop to and cover that. It worked and Adams' team won.

No fit strikers, a team full of midgets and some want to pick a CB who's been playing RB, as a fill-in striker. WTF,!!!!! [Post edited 31 Mar 22:15]

If you haven’t got a recognised CF available then play two up front and crowd the midfield. Don’t see why Alfie and Petrie couldn’t play up front together and if Lloyd could only last 45 mins then throw a n other alongside for the other 45. No reason why we can’t play a back three of Dunne, Morrison and Fox when so short of CB’s and crowd the midfield from Paal, Varane, Edwards, Colback, Smyth, Morgan, the Korean lad and Ashby, any five from eight as the game develops. What’s killed us away from home this season has been the front four being unable to hold the ball up and get us up the pitch, we spend a lot of those games under siege.
